During an audio-only press conference on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made a series of false statements that were truly astonishing.
She blatantly lied about various topics, including the situation at the U.S. border in Texas and the number of police officers who lost their lives on January 6th, 2021, as well as the reasons behind their deaths.
One of Jean-Pierre’s false claims was that the Texas Military Department hindered the efforts of U.S. Border Patrol agents to rescue a migrant family from drowning. However, both the Texas governor and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) have already debunked this report.
According to a timeline provided by the Texas Military Department, the Border Patrol had requested access to the park after the drownings had already occurred and the family’s remains were being recovered by Mexican authorities.
In addition, Jean-Pierre falsely asserted that multiple police officers died as a result of the U.S. Capitol breach on January 6th, 2021.
However, the truth is that only one person, Ashli Babbitt, a supporter of former President Trump, was shot and killed by a plainclothes police officer when she tried to enter the Speaker’s Lobby through a broken window.
Another officer, Brian Sicknick, who responded to the scene, died of “natural causes” after suffering two strokes, as confirmed by the U.S. Capitol Police.
“The USCP accepts the findings from the District of Columbia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes. This does not change the fact Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, courageously defending Congress and the Capitol,” the report reads.
The New York Times falsely reported in a January 2022 article, which was later updated in October of the same year, that Sicknick died from being “overpowered and beaten” by a mob at the U.S. Capitol.
However, the article did accurately report that two officers, Jeffrey Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department and Howard S. Liebengood of the Capitol Police, tragically took their own lives after the protest. Yet, some left-wing media outlets wrongly include their deaths as “January 6th riot deaths.”
While it’s not uncommon for White House press secretaries to stretch the truth, Jean-Pierre’s recent briefing was exceptionally deceptive.
However, despite the frustration, conservatives should try to empathize with Jean-Pierre, who has one of the toughest jobs in the White House: spinning and interpreting President Biden’s actions and decisions to make them seem important and effective, as if he is truly in charge.
She is constantly tasked with downplaying or dismissing Biden’s numerous vacations and his frequent blunders, which range from public falls to major mistakes in globally televised speeches.

How did both the Texas governor and the U.S. Department of Justice debunk Jean-Pierre’s claim about the Texas Military Department hindering the rescue efforts?

While it’s not uncommon for White House press secretaries to stretch the truth, Jean-Pierre’s recent brief takes false statements to a new level. It is essential for journalists and the public to fact-check and hold those in positions of power accountable for spreading misinformation.
