An Oregon Transgender Woman Arrested After Making Online Threats
Elizabeth West, a 56-year-old transgender woman from Oregon, has been taken into custody by the FBI following an investigation into her history of online threats against marginalized communities.
According to court documents, West came to the attention of authorities after an anonymous tip revealed a mass shooting threat made by West on Facebook. In the threat, West expressed frustration with being bullied and stated an intention to go out in a blaze of glory.
The FBI’s investigation uncovered West’s affiliation with Neo-Nazi groups and her attendance at their gatherings. During an interview with FBI agents, West revealed her troubled past, including thoughts of suicide, and her strong desire to undergo gender reassignment surgery.
West also admitted to harboring personal prejudices against blacks, Jews, and immigrants. Additional posts made by West on social media platforms showcased her support for Hitler, espoused hatred, and displayed weapons.
After failed attempts to interview West, the FBI executed a search warrant at her residence and discovered a significant arsenal of firearms, ammunition, and disturbing journals.
West has been charged with interstate threatening communications and is currently being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Oregon.
