Haley anxious about billionaire donor Langone: ‘No wasting money
Ken Langone Awaits Primary Results Before Donating to Nikki Haley
Ken Langone, co-founder of Home Depot, has revealed that his further donations to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley will depend on the outcome of the primary election in New Hampshire next week.
The billionaire philanthropist, in an interview with the Financial Times, stated that he is holding off on making a “major gift” to Haley until the results of the first-in-the-nation primary are announced.
“If she doesn’t gain traction in New Hampshire, I won’t throw money down a rat hole,” Langone emphasized, referring to the upcoming election on Tuesday.
In December, Langone publicly endorsed Haley, highlighting her as the best alternative to former President Donald Trump and the candidate most likely to defeat President Joe Biden in the general election. However, after Trump’s comfortable victory in the Iowa caucuses, Langone predicted a Biden-Trump rematch in November and expressed his inclination to vote for the former president if he becomes the GOP nominee.
While Langone may lean towards supporting Trump when casting his ballot, he strongly criticized the former president’s actions during the final days of his presidency.
“From Election Day 2020 to Jan. 6, Trump’s sole focus, in my opinion, was himself—not what was good for the country,” Langone stated, condemning Trump’s behavior.
Nevertheless, Langone acknowledged that, “away from the histrionics, away from the drama, away from the lack of decorum,” Trump did accomplish some commendable things.
“My concern is that we need a highly competent manager, as well as a president-statesman,” Langone explained. “That’s why I am supporting Nikki Haley, as she comes closest to embodying those qualities among all the candidates.”
Haley, following her third-place finish in Iowa with 19% of the vote, described the Republican race as a two-person contest between herself and Trump. Trump secured a massive lead with 51% of the vote, while Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) trailed behind at 21%.
A recent survey conducted by the American Research Group revealed that Haley and Trump are tied at 40% each among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire.
