Bill Maher on 2024: Normal vs. Crazy, not Right or Left
Bill Maher Calls for “The Year of Sanity” in 2024
During his Friday evening show, ”Real Time with Bill Maher,” comedian and HBO host Bill Maher delivered a powerful message to his audience. He revealed that he had conducted an informal poll, which revealed that Americans are yearning for a return to sanity in 2024.
Maher reflected on the current state of national politics, particularly as the presidential election cycle approaches. He argued that the battle no longer lies between the political left and right, but rather between “normal” and “crazy.”

“And finally, New Rule for 2024, America has to go back on its meds,” Maher began, sharing his conversations with people over the holidays. The majority expressed their desire for 2024 to be “the year of sanity.”
“Let’s make this the year of sanity,” Maher reiterated. “Everybody believes we’ve gone bonkers. And much of it is due to the extreme ends of both the left and the right receiving excessive attention. This begs the question, how can you suck all the oxygen out of the room and still not get any to your brain?”
Maher questioned whether finding middle ground was still possible and proceeded to highlight a series of issues that demonstrated America’s descent into madness.
“What seems crazy to a sane person?” he pondered before answering his own question. “For starters, I still occasionally see someone driving alone with a mask on. Who do they think they’re going to get it from? The lady in the next car putting on her makeup?”
Maher then outlined his vision of the middle ground: “Socially liberal but not blindly woke. Fiscally responsible but not heartless. Is it really that difficult? Trans people should be respected and protected, but should we allow penises in women’s prisons? Let’s legalize pot, but perhaps we should stop enabling hard drug addicts. Nikki Haley claims America has never been racist, while social justice warriors argue that no progress has been made since ‘Amos and Andy’?”
He concluded by referencing the Hamas terror attack in Israel on October 7th, expressing his disbelief at seeing Americans marching and rallying in support of the terrorists.
“A terrorist organization in the Middle East, which treats women like slaves, invaded Israel last October and mercilessly shot hundreds of young people at a desert music festival,” he exclaimed. “And now, American streets are filled with parades supporting the shooters, led by the very individuals who would attend a music festival in the desert. This is the literal definition of needing involuntary commitment: when you become a danger to yourself.”
“The battle for the soul of this country isn’t about right or left. It’s a battle between normalcy and insanity,” he boldly declared.
What measures does Maher propose to achieve “the year of sanity” in American politics?
Of the political spectrum.”
“Maher went on to explain that the polarization in American politics has reached unprecedented levels, causing a divide among its citizens. He argued that the constant barrage of extreme rhetoric, conspiracy theories, and misinformation has pushed the country to the brink of madness.”
“We need to bring back reason, logic, and evidence-based thinking,” Maher emphasized. “We can no longer allow ourselves to be swayed by emotion or ideology. It’s time to prioritize common sense and rationality.”
“In order to achieve this, Maher proposed several measures that he believes will contribute to “the year of sanity.” He called for media outlets to prioritize facts over ratings, urging them to fact-check and hold politicians accountable for spreading false information.”
“Additionally, Maher urged voters to educate themselves and make informed decisions. He emphasized the importance of critical thinking and fact-checking before accepting any political claim. He urged Americans to reject the extremes and seek common ground.”
“Maher also implored politicians to prioritize the well-being of the country over their personal ambitions and partisan agendas. He called for civility and respectful discourse, urging politicians to engage in meaningful dialogue rather than resorting to personal attacks.”
“The comedian concluded his message by reminding his audience that it is up to them to demand and foster sanity in 2024. He encouraged citizens to engage in constructive conversations, seek understanding, and actively participate in the political process.”
“Maher’s call for ”the year of sanity” resonated with many viewers, who expressed their agreement and support on social media. The overwhelming response highlighted the widespread exhaustion with the current state of politics and the desire for a return to reason and civility.”
“Whether Maher’s plea for sanity in 2024 will be heeded remains to be seen. However, his powerful message serves as a reminder that the responsibility lies with each and every American to restore sanity in the political sphere. As the upcoming presidential election approaches, it is crucial for citizens to prioritize critical thinking, fact-checking, and respectful dialogue in order to steer the nation back on track.
