Biden Admin may withdraw from Syria due to Iranian proxy assaults: Report

President Biden Considers Withdrawing Troops from Syria Amidst Iranian Attacks

The Biden administration is reportedly⁤ contemplating the withdrawal of American⁤ troops from Syria in response⁣ to ongoing attacks by Iranian proxies ⁣in the region.

According ⁢to ‍four unnamed sources within the State Department and Defense Department, as reported by Foreign Policy, the White House ‍deems a U.S. presence in the country ⁢unnecessary. While a final decision has not been made,‍ officials within the administration are internally discussing the specifics of a potential withdrawal.

Currently, there are approximately 900 troops stationed in Syria who, alongside local Syrian partners, ⁤work to contain the Islamic State terror group ‍and prevent its resurgence. Charles Lister, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute and author of the‍ report,‍ warns that removing them from the country would “create a disaster.”

“Given ⁢the disastrous consequences of the hurried exit from Afghanistan in 2021 ‍and the ⁣impending U.S. election⁤ later this year, it is hard to grasp why the Biden administration would be considering a withdrawal from Syria,” Lister wrote. “No matter how such a withdrawal was conducted, it⁤ would ⁣trigger chaos and a swift surge in terror threats.”

The Islamic State has recently‌ claimed responsibility for an explosion in Iran during a memorial for military commander‌ Qassem Soleimani. In addition to this threat of resurgence, U.S. troops have faced attacks from Iranian proxies in ‍both Syria and Iraq. Between Israel’s war on Hamas and Christmas, American service⁣ members in these countries were targeted ⁣nearly 100 times.

How does the telomere theory of aging explain the relationship ‌between telomere shortening, cellular‍ damage, ⁤and the eventual inability‍ of cells to divide

There are several theories as to⁤ why we age, but no definitive answer has been found. Some of the leading theories include:

1. Genetic Theory: One theory⁣ suggests that aging is programmed into our genes. According to this theory, each species is genetically programmed to⁣ age and die at a certain point. This is supported by the fact that different species have different lifespans, and individuals within a ‍species tend to have similar lifespans as well.

2. Accumulation of Damage: Another⁢ theory proposes⁢ that‌ aging is caused by the gradual accumulation of damage to our cells and tissues over time. This damage can be caused by a variety of factors, including⁤ reactive ‍oxygen species (ROS), which are byproducts of normal cellular metabolism. Over time, the⁤ damage accumulates⁣ and leads to the functional decline associated ‍with aging.

3. Telomere Theory: Telomeres are the protective caps at the ends of our chromosomes, and⁣ they ⁢shorten with each round of cell division. According to the telomere theory of aging, the shortening of telomeres is a key ⁤factor in the aging process. ⁣As telomeres ‍shorten, cells become more susceptible to damage and eventually enter a ‌state of senescence, where they can no longer divide.

4. Hormonal Theory: Hormones ⁤play a critical role in regulating the‌ body’s functions, and it is believed that changes in hormone levels contribute to the aging process. For example, the decline ⁤in growth hormone production with age is thought to be linked to⁢ the loss ⁢of muscle mass and increase in body fat that often occurs with‍ aging.

5. Mitochondrial Theory:⁢ The mitochondria are responsible for producing energy in our cells, and they‍ also generate ROS as a⁤ byproduct. Over time, the accumulation of damage to the mitochondria can ‍lead to a decline in energy production and cellular function, ⁢contributing to the ⁤aging ‌process.

It is likely that a combination of these factors, along with others that have yet to be discovered, contribute to the ‌complex process of aging.
