Hakeem Jeffries contributed $2.5 million to DCCC, exceeding his member dues by 227%
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries Surpasses Fundraising Expectations as House Minority Leader
During his first year as House Minority Leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) exceeded all expectations by paying 227% of his dues owed to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). His impressive fundraising efforts, totaling $2.5 million in contributions to the DCCC and $99.8 million raised overall, have positioned him as a financial powerhouse in the political arena.
By December 2023, reports obtained by Punchbowl News revealed Jeffries’ remarkable achievements. Not only has he allocated $5.8 million to support Democratic incumbents in battleground districts, but he has also provided substantial funding for candidates aiming to flip red seats.
Jeffries Follows in the Footsteps of Fundraising Icon Nancy Pelosi
Jeffries has followed in the footsteps of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), a legendary figure known for her exceptional fundraising abilities during her tenure as the Democratic House leader. While Pelosi remains a top contributor, having paid $750,000 in dues according to December records, Jeffries has emerged as a formidable force in the fundraising arena.
Jeffries has appointed Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) to lead the DCCC. DelBene, recognizing the importance of the upcoming year for vulnerable House seats, has contributed 100% of her dues, amounting to $630,000.
Other prominent Democrats have also reported impressive numbers, further bolstering the DCCC’s goal of flipping more seats in the November elections. House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) has contributed $1 million in dues, while Caucus Chairman Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) has chipped in $785,000.
NRCC Struggles as DCCC Outraises Them
Last year, the DCCC consistently outperformed the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in fundraising. The chaos within House Republicans, including the removal of former Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the speakership and difficulties in passing bills, contributed to the NRCC’s struggles. In November 2023, after Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was elected as the 56th speaker, the NRCC reported $9 million, surpassing its Democratic counterpart by $1.5 million.
The NRCC highlighted that targeted Republican members outperformed targeted Democrats in fundraising last year. According to an NRCC memo, “For three straight fundraising quarters in 2023, targeted House Republicans outraised targeted Democrats — unprecedented in recent cycles. Targeted Republicans now hold a more than $566K cash-on-hand advantage over targeted House Democrats.”
Jeffries and Clark Increase Support for DCCC
Jeffries has significantly increased transfers from his leadership PAC to the DCCC, while Clark has also stepped up her contributions to the House Democrats’ campaign arm.
When questioned about the impressive payments made last year, Pelosi explained, “That always happens in a new term. It’s really important to show their support for a new leader,” as reported by Politico.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to Jeffries’s office and the DCCC for comment.
