Trump and Biden​ Compete for Teamsters Union Endorsement

Former President Donald Trump and President Joe‌ Biden ‌are vying for the coveted endorsement of the⁣ Teamsters union ahead of the 2024 election. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has ‌announced that both candidates will have the opportunity to meet with the ⁢union in separate roundtable discussions.

Trump’s Roundtable

The union’s⁤ Rank-and-file Presidential Roundtables will kick⁤ off on⁤ Wednesday‍ with a ⁣meeting between the Teamsters⁤ and⁣ Trump. This will‍ provide‍ Trump ⁢with a platform to address union⁤ members, the Executive Board, President⁣ Sean M. O’Brien,​ and Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman‌ at the ⁣Teamsters⁣ headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Biden’s campaign did not provide comment to the ⁣Washington Examiner.

“Our members want to hear from all candidates‍ of all parties ​about what they plan to do for​ working people ⁣as‌ President,”​ said O’Brien. “Teamsters are essential ​to every ⁢trade⁣ industry in this country. Our union wants every candidate to know that there‍ are‍ 1.3 ⁣million​ Teamsters nationwide whose votes will not be ‌taken for granted. Workers’ voices​ must ​be heard.”

Other Candidates

O’Brien has ​already met with several other candidates during the 2024 cycle, including ​Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Marianne Williamson, ⁣Cornel West, and Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN). Republican⁢ candidate Nikki Haley ‌has‍ also received an invitation from the ‌Teamsters.

Haley’s campaign did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.

The Teamsters have not yet endorsed any candidate for the 2024 presidential election. However, Biden recently received the ‍endorsement of United‍ Auto ⁣Workers President Shawn Fain.

Strong Support for Labor Unions

The Teamsters meetings with Trump and ⁣potentially⁣ Biden come at a time when approval of ⁢labor ⁢unions is on the rise. According‌ to Gallup, 67% ‍of ⁢the⁢ public reported ‍approving of labor⁤ unions in 2023,⁣ a‍ significant increase from the ⁣record-low of 48% in 2009.
