Eagle Pass locked down, yet border crossings persist nearby in Texas
Eagle Pass, TX: Texas Authorities Successfully Control Shelby Park, but Border Crossings Persist
The efforts of Texas authorities to prevent illegal border crossings in Shelby Park in Eagle Pass have proven effective, but the issue persists in surrounding areas.
The Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) have successfully maintained control of Shelby Park, a 47-acre park along the Rio Grande, despite attempts from Border Patrol to retake control.
Working together, the Texas National Guard and DPS have implemented a strategy known as “PDI” – prevent, deter, interdict. They have fortified the border with shipping containers, triple strand concertina wire, and razor wire. Recent footage shows Texas National Guard engineers reinforcing existing barriers with additional razor wire.
When individuals manage to breach the wire and scale the shipping containers, they are apprehended and often charged with trespassing. Video evidence obtained by The Daily Wire shows Texas authorities handcuffing illegal immigrants.

While illegal border crossings at Shelby Park have significantly decreased since the Texas National Guard took control, foreign nationals continue to enter the country through other nearby locations under federal authorities’ jurisdiction.
Footage captured by The Daily Wire shows a man from Peru entering the United States from a different location, approximately 5 miles from Shelby Park. He boarded a bus, likely headed to the federal processing facility in Eagle Pass. The destination of the bus remains undisclosed.

In another video, three individuals from Guatemala are seen boarding a similar bus from the same location. The border area is littered with trash left behind by illegal immigrants who crossed the Rio Grande into the United States.
The endless stream of illegal immigrants into the United States has turned the border into a literal dump, with piles of trash lining the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector.

Shelby Park remains at the center of an ongoing dispute between Texas and the Biden administration. Texas authorities have prevented Border Patrol from taking control of the area, despite the federal government’s claim of access rights.
While the Texas National Guard and DPS maintain control over Shelby Park, federal Border Patrol agents largely staff other areas along the border. These agents transport foreign nationals to processing centers, where many are ultimately released into the interior of the United States.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has denied the Biden administration’s request for full access to Shelby Park, following a Supreme Court ruling allowing the federal government to remove razor wire placed by the Texas National Guard.
This dispute over Shelby Park occurs amidst an unprecedented crisis, with over 10 million individuals crossing the border since Joe Biden assumed office.
How can the federal government work hand in hand with state authorities to address the ongoing border crisis? How can the successful efforts of Texas authorities in Shelby Park be used as a model for future actions and strategies
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Texas authorities in controlling illegal border crossings. While their efforts have been successful in reducing activity at Shelby Park, it is clear that more needs to be done to address the issue along the entire border.
The persistence of border crossings in surrounding areas emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to border security. While the Texas National Guard and DPS have been able to effectively control Shelby Park, it is crucial that other vulnerable locations are also given attention and resources to prevent unauthorized entries into the country.
The federal government must work hand in hand with state authorities to address the ongoing border crisis. The Texas authorities’ successful efforts in Shelby Park should serve as a model for future actions and strategies. With the right support and resources, border security can be strengthened, and illegal crossings can be significantly reduced.
Furthermore, the issue of border security extends beyond just the state of Texas. It is a national concern that requires a coordinated and comprehensive response. Strong border security measures are necessary to protect the safety and security of the American people, as well as to ensure the integrity of the immigration system.
In conclusion, while Texas authorities have successfully controlled illegal border crossings in Shelby Park, the issue persists in surrounding areas. This highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to border security and the importance of collaboration between state and federal authorities. By working together and implementing effective strategies, it is possible to address the ongoing challenges at the border and ensure the safety and security of the nation.
