Attorneys for murder suspect Bryan Kohberger have filed a motion to move the trial out of Latah County.
On Tuesday, Kohberger, the suspect in the murder of four University of Idaho students, and his attorneys filed a motion asking the court to move his trial to another location as a “fair and impartial jury cannot be found in Latah County.”
Anne Taylor, a public defender, says in the motion that “enlarging the jury pool will not do anything to overcome that pervasive prejudicial publicity because Latah County does not have a large enough population center to avoid the bias in the community.”
The motion also claims that the size of the county could be detrimental to the case because “the size of the community and the interconnectedness of its citizenry is problematic and will prevent a fair and impartial pool of potential jurors.”
Kohberger and Taylor are now asking the court to schedule a hearing to discuss the motion further and to give him the opportunity to argue in favor of changing the location of the trial.
Kohberger is currently awaiting trial on multiple counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary related to the deaths of the four students who were tragically murdered in the same home.
The victims were identified as Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.
Kohberger has pleaded not guilty to all charges and his trial was originally set for October 2nd. However, it has been delayed due to the 29-year-old suspect waiving his right to a speedy trial.
A new trial date has not been set yet.

What are the reasons cited by Bryan Kohberger’s defense lawyers for seeking a change of venue in his murder trial?
Title: Defense Lawyers Seek Change of Venue for Murder Suspect Bryan Kohberger’s Trial
Introduction
Attorneys representing murder suspect Bryan Kohberger have recently filed a motion requesting a change of venue for his trial, citing concerns about the fairness and impartiality of a jury in Latah County. This formal article aims to provide an overview of the motion and the reasoning behind it.
Background
Bryan Kohberger is currently facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder and felony burglary. These charges stem from the tragic deaths of four University of Idaho students: Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Kohberger, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, is awaiting trial while his defense lawyers seek a change of venue.
The Motion for Change of Venue
Kohberger’s attorneys argue that a fair and impartial jury cannot be found within Latah County due to pervasive prejudicial publicity. Anne Taylor, a public defender representing Kohberger, states in the motion that enlarging the jury pool will not overcome the biased community atmosphere. Latah County, with its limited population center, cannot avoid the effects of biased reporting and opinions that may influence potential jurors.
Furthermore, the motion suggests that the size and interconnectedness of Latah County’s community could present challenges to ensuring a fair trial. The defense claims that these factors will make it difficult to select an impartial jury. To address these concerns, Kohberger and Taylor are requesting a hearing to discuss the motion in detail and present arguments supporting a change of trial location.
Current Status and Impact
Although Kohberger’s trial was initially scheduled for October 2nd, it has been postponed due to his waiver of the right to a speedy trial. A new trial date has not yet been set, emphasizing the significance of the pending motion for a change of venue. If the motion is approved, the trial would be relocated to a different jurisdiction where the defense hopes to find a more impartial jury.
Conclusion
The motion filed by Bryan Kohberger’s defense attorneys requesting a change of venue reflects their concerns regarding the fairness and impartiality of a jury trial in Latah County. Citing pervasive prejudicial publicity and the interconnectedness of the community, the defense aims to ensure that Kohberger receives an unbiased trial. As the case unfolds, updates on the progress of the motion and any further developments will be provided.
