President Biden’s Re-election Campaign Faces Potential Trouble
A recent report from a White House insider reveals that President Joe Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign team is worried about a Justice Department investigation into his retention of confidential documents. The team fears that this investigation could uncover other “embarrassing details” that may complicate Biden’s bid for re-election.
Investigation into Confidential Documents
On January 12th, 2023, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed special counsel Robert Hur to investigate the case. The FBI had previously searched Biden’s properties in Delaware and Washington, D.C., in search of secret documents. During the search, Biden’s attorneys and FBI agents did discover several sensitive documents hidden on the president’s properties.
The Biden campaign team expects Hur’s investigation to conclude this week, according to Axios. The final report may contain details and images that could pose challenges to Biden’s re-election campaign.
Uncovered Secret Files
In November 2022, Biden’s lawyers found at least a dozen secret files, some related to Iran, the U.K., and Ukraine, at his Penn Biden Center think tank office in Washington, D.C. The discovery was not made public until after the midterm elections. In December, more intelligence documents were found in Biden’s garage and library at his Wilmington, Delaware, home.
Between November 2022 and February 2023, the FBI conducted further searches at Biden’s Rehoboth Beach house and office, as well as other locations associated with the president, in search of additional sensitive documents.
Controversial Photos and Uncertain Contents
Photos found on Hunter Biden’s laptop revealed that he had access to top-secret files stored near his father’s Corvette Stingray. Hunter also took a picture of a package labeled “Important Doc’s [sic] + Photos.” The contents of this package remain uncertain, but some sources speculate that it may be related to Biden’s memoir.
Biden’s Response and Ongoing Investigation
President Biden has dismissed the controversy as a matter of “stray papers” and claims that the documents were stored securely. He asserts full cooperation with Hur’s probe. Both Biden and his son have been questioned as part of the investigation.
House Republicans Investigating Biden’s Impeachment
House Republicans are investigating Joe Biden’s impeachment, aiming to gather evidence of misuse of his position as vice president and potential profiting from Hunter’s foreign influence-peddling activities.
Indictment Against Former President Trump
In June 2023, former President Donald Trump was indicted by special counsel Jack Smith for allegedly keeping secret documents at his Mar-a-Lago home and lying to federal agents. The case involves 40 charges of hiding U.S. intelligence documents, some classified as “Top Secret.”
