Americans lack trust in Biden’s immigration policies, and enacting additional laws won’t alter this perception
The Biden Administration’s Immigration Dilemma: A Crisis of Trust
The Biden administration finds itself in a precarious situation when it comes to immigration. The American people have lost faith in their ability to handle the issue, and for good reason. The administration’s stance on open borders has eroded trust among the public.
According to an NBC poll, Joe Biden’s approval rating currently stands at a dismal 37%. Even worse, the same poll shows him trailing behind Donald Trump by five points in a hypothetical presidential race. Additionally, Republicans are leading on the generic ballot by four points.
These numbers paint a bleak picture for Biden. The American people not only distrust his approach to immigration, but they also believe he has the power to stop the influx of illegal immigrants. And they are correct in their assessment.
Despite Biden’s claims that he lacks the capacity to secure the border, his own Department of Homeland Security head, Alejandro Mayorkas, has suggested the need for more migrants in the United States. In an interview with the New York Times, Mayorkas proposed expanding legal pathways to address labor needs.
“Wouldn’t it be more orderly, and wouldn’t it be responsible governance to be able to deliver a lawful pathway to fill what we have, which is a labor need and cut the exploitative smugglers out and give the individuals a path to arrive lawfully safely in an orderly way to perform labor that we need? They can send remittances home. They can return home when their work is done. Isn’t that an element of a workable immigration system?”
This statement only reinforces the belief that the Biden administration wishes to keep the border open. Despite Biden’s protests, his words hold little credibility.
The Democrats are playing a dangerous game, attempting to shift blame onto Republicans by crafting a “bipartisan immigration bill.” Their hope is that if things continue to deteriorate, they can point fingers at Republicans for their involvement in the legislation.
However, even Democrat Rep. Robert Menendez of New Jersey acknowledges that support for mass deportations has doubled. A recent CNN poll reveals that 31% of Americans now prioritize mass deportations of all illegal immigrants, up from 15% in 2019.
“People see the situation at the border and they’re responding to the Republican narrative around what’s happening at the border. Listen, there’s a global migration challenge between global climate change, between failed governments in our hemisphere. There’s a challenge that we have to address at the root cause and also how it’s appearing at our border. But when you look at what Republicans talk about, when you talk about a mass invasion, like you hear Texas Republicans talking about, when you talk about things like replacement theory, these are things that have gained hold in our electorate because that’s what Republicans are talking about. Because they think it’s, if they can come up with a conspiracy theory that’s dangerous enough, that Americans will trust them. So when you see the rise in support for mass deportations, it’s in response to a dangerous Republican narrative.”
Menendez’s attempt to blame Republicans for the rise in support for mass deportations is misguided. The real issue at hand is the overwhelming wave of illegal immigration.
In a comical media moment, CNN interviewed immigration experts who discussed the perplexing behavior of illegal immigrants. These individuals would commit crimes in New York, travel to Florida to spend the money, and then return to New York. The CNN anchors questioned why they would come back to New York instead of staying in Florida. The answer, provided by John Miller, chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst for CNN, was astonishing. He admitted that the immigrants return to New York because they won’t be deported if they are caught there.
Biden’s failure to enforce border law is a clear violation of his responsibilities as president. Simply passing more laws will not solve the problem; it will only make everyone complicit in Biden’s mishandling of the border.

How can the Biden administration effectively enforce immigration laws and prioritize the removal of individuals who pose a threat to public safety?
S no doubt that there is a crisis. There is a migrationms and- a humanitarian and security crisis at the border.”
The American people are not blind to the situation at the border. They see the overcrowded detention centers, they hear the stories of human smuggling, and they witness the strain it puts on local communities. Their trust in the Biden administration is shattered, and a solution seems distant.
To regain the trust of the American public, the Biden administration must take decisive action. They need to secure the border, enforce immigration laws, and focus on fixing the broken system. Empty promises and political rhetoric will not suffice. Actions speak louder than words.
Firstly, the administration needs to prioritize border security. This means investing in physical barriers, utilizing technology for effective surveillance, and increasing the presence of border patrol agents. A secure border will act as a deterrent for illegal immigration and restore public confidence.
Secondly, the Biden administration must enforce immigration laws. This involves prioritizing the removal of individuals who pose a threat to public safety, such as criminals and gang members. Streamlining the deportation process and holding accountable those who exploit the system will send a strong message that the administration is committed to upholding the rule of law.
Finally, it is crucial for the Biden administration to work towards fixing the broken immigration system. This entails comprehensive immigration reform that addresses the root causes of illegal migration, provides a pathway to legal status for those already in the country, and creates a system that is fair, efficient, and compassionate.
In order to achieve these goals, the Biden administration must also be willing to work with Republicans and engage in true bipartisan efforts. The current approach of blaming Republicans and attempting to pass legislation without their input only deepens the divide and further erodes trust.
Ultimately, the immigration dilemma facing the Biden administration is a crisis of trust. The American people have lost faith in their ability to handle the issue effectively. To restore trust, the administration must take concrete actions to secure the border, enforce immigration laws, and fix the broken system. Only then can they begin to regain the confidence of the American public.
