Disney’s feminist writers ruined ‘Star Wars
Disney’s Resurrection of Palpatine: A Betrayal of Fans and Storytelling
When Disney’s new generation of “Star Wars” writers brought back the evil Emperor Palpatine to introduce a female Jedi as the new hero, they not only alienated a significant portion of their fanbase, but they also undermined the integrity of the overall story.
Shortly after Disney acquired “Star Wars” from George Lucas in 2012, Kathleen Kennedy, the new president of Lucasfilm, appeared in an interview with Lucas where she claimed, “The main thing is to protect these characters. Make sure that they continue to live in the way that you created them.”
However, the resurrection of Palpatine clearly demonstrated that this promise was not upheld.
Throughout the “Star Wars” saga, a diverse range of captivating characters have been introduced, from Padme Amidala to Cal Kestis. Yet, it is crucial to recognize that all of these characters revolve around the central figure of Anakin Skywalker.
Anakin’s journey begins in “The Phantom Menace,” where he is discovered by the Jedi and believed to be the prophesied “Chosen One” destined to bring balance to The Force. As the trilogy progresses, Anakin’s strengths and weaknesses are revealed, particularly his vulnerability to his emotions.
In “Revenge of the Sith,” Anakin succumbs to the dark side, manipulated by Palpatine’s deceit. He becomes Darth Vader, leading to the massacre of the Jedi Order. However, in a redemptive act, Anakin ultimately saves his son and destroys Palpatine, fulfilling the prophecy and bringing balance to The Force.
Decades later, Disney’s new trilogy introduced Rey as the central protagonist in “The Force Awakens.” Despite her lack of training, she possesses immense power comparable to Jedi masters before her. This decision reflects Disney’s intention to promote a feminist worldview, as stated by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chino.
Here’s the feminist director of the next Star Wars film saying that her goal is to “make men uncomfortable.”

The trilogy’s downfall culminated in “The Rise of Skywalker,” where Palpatine’s return rendered Anakin’s sacrifice meaningless. The writing, including the infamous line “Somehow Palpatine returned,” received widespread criticism.
Despite these flaws, the mishandling of Anakin’s legacy is not the only issue. Political correctness has also plagued the “Star Wars” universe, as seen in the firing of actress Gina Carano for sharing a post drawing parallels between the political climate and Nazi Germany.
Mark Hamill, known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker, expressed dissatisfaction with how his character was depicted, stating, ”He’s not my Luke Skywalker.”
For a franchise with such a devoted fanbase, every aspect of the writing should be carefully crafted. However, Disney’s decision to prioritize politically charged narratives over storytelling has resulted in a tarnished legacy for Anakin Skywalker and “Star Wars” as a whole.
Unless Disney addresses these issues, the unforgivable betrayal of fans will forever stain the saga.

How did the decision to resurrect Palpatine in “The Rise of Skywalker” impact the significance of Anakin’s sacrifice in the previous trilogy?
Her. This was a promising start to a new chapter in the “Star Wars” saga, showcasing the potential for a fresh and compelling story.
However, the decision to resurrect Palpatine in ”The Rise of Skywalker” negated the impact of Anakin’s sacrifice in the previous trilogy. Anakin’s redemption arc, his reclamation of his identity as a Jedi, and the ultimate defeat of Palpatine were crucial moments in the saga. By bringing Palpatine back to life, Disney undermined the significance of these events, rendering them meaningless.
Furthermore, the return of Palpatine was not only a betrayal of storytelling but also a betrayal of the fans who have invested their time, passion, and loyalty in the “Star Wars” franchise. The original trilogy and the prequel trilogy built a compelling narrative, exploring the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker and the battle between the light and dark sides of the Force. Fans became emotionally invested in the characters and their journeys, forming deep connections to the story that shaped their childhoods.
Bringing back Palpatine was a desperate attempt to provide closure and nostalgia for long-time fans, but it only served to alienate and disappoint them. Instead of embracing the new characters and allowing them to forge their own paths, Disney relied on the familiarity of the past, relying on old characters to carry the weight of the story.
Moreover, the resurrection of Palpatine disrupted the established lore and mythology of the ”Star Wars” universe. Previously, it was established that Sith Lords could only achieve immortality through the manipulation of the Force, known as Force Ghosts, as demonstrated by characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. By resurrecting Palpatine, Disney ignored this established canon and introduced a contrived plot device that defied the logic and rules of the universe.
In conclusion, Disney’s decision to resurrect Palpatine in the new trilogy was not only a betrayal of fans but also a betrayal of storytelling. It undermined the integrity of the overall narrative, negated the impact of previous character arcs, and disrupted the established lore of the ”Star Wars” universe. The fans deserved better, and the story deserved better. It is a disappointment that such a legendary franchise was mishandled, tarnishing the legacy that George Lucas built with his original vision.
