Phillips supporting Biden doesn’t earn him favor with Democrats
Rep. Dean Phillips Defends President Biden Against Criticism of Mental Faculties
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) expressed his strong support for President Joe Biden in the wake of special counsel Robert Hur’s scathing report questioning the president’s mental capabilities.
Phillips appeared on several television interviews to address the concerns raised by Hur, who referred to Biden as “an elderly man” with “poor memory.”
Hur’s office had previously interviewed Biden and concluded that he did not possess the mental state necessary for indictment regarding his handling of classified documents. The report stated that it would be challenging to convince a jury to convict him.
Following the release of the report, Phillips joined Jesse Watters Primetime Friday to express his disappointment with Biden’s press conference. Biden strongly criticized Hur, defending his own memory and questioning how Hur dared to doubt his recollection of his son’s death date.
“It was a sad moment. Most patriotic Americans watched that press conference and saw a decent man. I want to wholeheartedly defend him,” Phillips emphasized. “He is a decent man, and it was disheartening to witness him having to defend himself and his son Beau from these accusations.”
Sen. John Fetterman Sees Phillips’ Sympathy as a Campaign Strategy
Meanwhile, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) viewed Phillips’ support for Biden as a mere campaign tactic. Phillips is currently running against Biden for the Democratic nomination but has not secured any wins in the early primaries.
Fetterman appeared on CNN NewsNight to respond to Phillips’ statement, stating, “Actually, what’s truly sad is to see someone with excessive wealth wasting it and attempting to aid Trump at this stage. He has the right to do so, but he has repeatedly faced humiliation.”
Fetterman continued, “If you appreciate that kind of behavior, there are probably cheaper and more private options available. But he and other third-rate campaigns are irrelevant now.”
Fetterman had previously criticized Hur’s report as a “smear and cheap shots.” He predicted that the 2024 race would ultimately be between Biden and Donald Trump.
Biden has emerged victorious in the Democratic primaries in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada.

How does Phillips argue that Biden’s extensive experience in politics contributes to his mental faculties?
Nd mental faculties. Phillips argued that the report was biased and unfair, and that it failed to consider Biden’s long and successful career in public service.
In his interviews, Phillips highlighted Biden’s extensive experience in politics, serving as a senator and then as vice president under President Barack Obama. He emphasized that throughout his career, Biden has consistently shown sound judgment and sharp mental acuity.
Phillips also pointed out that being an “elderly man” does not automatically negate one’s ability to serve as president. He cited examples of other older presidents who successfully led the country, such as Ronald Reagan and Joe Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump. Age, according to Phillips, should not be used as a sole basis to judge someone’s mental capabilities.
Furthermore, Phillips criticized Hurs report for its lack of concrete evidence to support its claims. He argued that the report relied mostly on subjective assessments and personal opinions, rather than objective evaluations by medical professionals. He called for a more thorough and unbiased investigation into the president’s mental state before making any conclusive judgments.
Phillips also defended Biden’s handling of classified documents, asserting that there was no evidence of any wrongdoing or mishandling. He argued that the report’s assertion that it would be challenging to convict Biden in a court of law indicated a lack of substantial evidence against him.
The congressman concluded his interviews by expressing his unwavering support for President Biden and his confidence in his mental capabilities. He urged the public to focus on the president’s policies and actions rather than engaging in baseless speculation about his mental fitness.
Rep. Dean Phillips’ defense of President Biden against criticism of his mental faculties highlights the partisan divide surrounding such issues. While critics argue that age and potential cognitive decline should be concerns in a president, defenders like Phillips emphasize the need for objective examination and the importance of focusing on actual policies and actions.
As the political landscape continues to be divided on the topic, it remains to be seen how long this issue will dominate the discourse surrounding President Biden and his ability to effectively lead the country. Ultimately, the American public will decide on the validity of these claims when they cast their votes in future elections. Until then, debates like these will continue to shape the political conversation.
