Texas officials have been tirelessly searching for 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, who mysteriously disappeared after failing to board her school bus. The discovery ‍of⁢ her “Hello Kitty” backpack near ‍a reservoir has ​become a crucial piece of evidence.

On Thursday morning at 7‌ a.m., Cunningham⁤ was ⁢last seen near​ her home in Polk County, Texas. Despite ‍her absence from school and failure to board ‌the ‌bus, ​her whereabouts remain unknown, according to ‍a statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

An⁣ AMBER Alert has been​ issued for Cunningham across Texas, and⁤ the search‍ effort has ⁣been described​ as an “all-hands-on-deck investigation” by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The missing girl is described as a “White, standing [at] four ⁢feet ‌and one inch tall, with blonde hair and blue eyes.”‌ She was ‌last seen wearing “black⁣ tennis shoes, black pants, and a black​ hoodie with white lettering.”

In a‌ recent news release, the Polk County ⁤Sheriff’s Office announced the identification of ​a person of interest in the case of the​ missing ​11-year-old ‍girl. Don ⁢Steven McDougal, 42, has been taken into custody on an unrelated charge and⁣ is currently being held in jail in ⁤Polk County.

McDougal was initially detained on Friday⁢ for aggravated⁤ assault in a separate incident, but‍ he has now been identified as‍ one of‍ the persons of ‍interest in the DPS’s investigation for the Southeast Texas​ region.

According to ‌investigators, the girl’s disappearance may ​be connected to a dark blue 2003⁣ Chevrolet Suburban. They‌ are urging anyone who witnessed the vehicle on Thursday or Friday to report the incident to the police.

A small backpack believed to belong to⁣ the missing girl was found near the⁤ Cunningham​ family’s residence at the Lake Livingston Dam, as stated ⁢in the agency’s press release.

A⁣ press conference has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Monday⁣ to provide additional ⁤updates on‌ the ongoing search for⁣ the 11-year-old ⁤Texas girl.

The search for Cunningham involves a collaborative ⁢effort from several law enforcement agencies, including ⁣state troopers, Polk County deputies, ​San Jacinto County deputies, first responders, ⁤and ⁤the FBI.

“The ‍focus right‍ now is on bringing Audrii home,” said Lt. Craig Cummings. ​”The family has been very cooperative. Everybody here,⁤ the entire community here, has been nothing but cooperative and helpful. Our prayers collectively are ‍that⁣ we⁢ bring ⁢Audrii⁤ home soon.”
