Elon Musk slams Google’s anti-white AI tool as “flat-out illegal” in response to Matt Walsh’s posts
Billionaire Elon Musk Slams Google AI Executive for Racist Comments
In a fiery response, Elon Musk criticized a Google AI executive for her past racist remarks, which he deemed a ”confession of a crime.” The controversy arose after Daily Wire host Matt Walsh delved into Google’s new Gemini AI project, which was temporarily halted due to allegations of anti-white bias.
Walsh shared a video of Jen Gennai, the founder of Google’s “AI Responsibility” initiative, speaking at a keynote address in 2021. Gennai openly admitted to treating ”Black, Hispanic, and Latinx” employees differently than their white counterparts. She acknowledged that she used to treat everyone the same but realized the need to address historic systems and structures that favored certain groups.

Musk swiftly responded, stating that treating people differently based on race or gender is illegal and considered it a confession of a crime.
Treating people differently on the basis of race, gender, etc is flat-out illegal. This is confession of a crime.

Walsh also highlighted Gennai’s previous controversy during the 2020 election, where she allegedly suggested that Google was working to prevent Donald Trump from winning. Musk chimed in, calling such interference illegal.
That would be illegal election interference

The Gemini AI project faced further scrutiny as it was accused of refusing to generate images of white people. Daily Wire writer Frank Fleming attempted various prompts to obtain images of white individuals but was unsuccessful. Fleming humorously tried negative prompts and requested images of traditionally non-white groups to test the chatbot’s diversity, but it consistently failed to include white people.

Furthermore, Gemini AI refused to generate an image of Tiananmen Square, citing the event’s sensitivity and complexity. This raised eyebrows, considering Google’s close ties with the Chinese government.

How does Elon Musk’s perspective on affirmative action align with the ongoing debate surrounding diversity and inclusion in the tech industry?
Musk (@elonmusk) February 22, 2024
Musk’s strong condemnation of Gennai’s remarks highlights the ongoing debate surrounding diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. While many argue that affirmative action is necessary to address historical inequalities, Musk’s perspective is that treating individuals differently based on race or gender is a violation of the law and perpetuates discrimination.
This is not the first time Musk has been vocal about his concerns regarding artificial intelligence. He has previously warned about the potential dangers of AI and even suggested that it could pose a greater threat to humanity than nuclear weapons. Musk’s criticism of Gennai’s comments may stem from his belief that biased AI systems, like the one alleged in Google’s Gemini project, could exacerbate societal divisions and inequalities.
The controversy surrounding Google’s Gemini AI project arose when whistleblower Zach Vorhies leaked internal documents that allegedly revealed the company’s bias against conservative viewpoints. The leaked documents included a section discussing the implementation of an algorithm that could adjust search results to promote content that aligns with Google’s political and ideological biases.
In response to the allegations, Google temporarily halted the Gemini project, stating that they are committed to addressing any concerns of bias and ensuring fairness in their AI systems. However, critics argue that this incident is just another example of the tech giant’s alleged bias and censorship.
The exchange between Musk and Gennai also sheds light on the importance of accountability and responsibility in the tech industry. As AI continues to advance and shape various aspects of our lives, it is crucial that the individuals leading these projects uphold ethical standards and avoid perpetuating discrimination.
This incident serves as a reminder that the use of AI must be guided by principles of fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. It also highlights the need for ongoing discussions and debates about the potential impact of AI on society, as well as the importance of diverse perspectives in shaping the future of technology.
As the tech industry continues to grapple with issues of bias, diversity, and ethical responsibility, incidents like this one spark important conversations and raise awareness about the need for continuous improvement in the development and implementation of AI systems. It remains to be seen how Google and other tech giants will address these concerns and ensure that their AI initiatives are free from bias and discrimination.
Ultimately, the response from Elon Musk reflects a broader societal discussion about equality and fairness in the tech industry. It serves as a reminder that progress in AI must not come at the expense of reinforcing historical inequities, but rather should strive to create a more inclusive and just future.
