Nikki Haley won’t quit despite South Carolina loss: ‘Our story continues
Former U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley Vows to Keep Fighting for Presidency Despite Defeat
CHARLESTON, South Carolina — Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley remains determined to pursue her presidential ambitions, even after suffering a significant loss to former President Donald Trump in her home state on Saturday.
“I said earlier this week that no matter what happens in South Carolina, I would continue to run for president. I’m a woman of my word,” Haley declared to a cheering crowd at her election night party at The Charleston Place. “I’m not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden.”
The grand ballroom, initially quiet when Trump was declared the winner after the polls closed at 7 p.m., quickly filled with supporters as Haley took the stage to announce her next steps.
Haley graciously congratulated Trump on his victory but emphasized that the results in South Carolina indicate a desire for an alternative to Biden or Trump. She asserted, “I’m an accountant — I know 40% is not 50%. But I also know 40% is not some tiny group. There are huge numbers of voters in our Republican primaries who are saying they want an alternative.”
Before addressing her supporters, Haley’s attendees enjoyed a spread of delicious snacks, including charcuterie, spinach and artichoke dip, and Carolina crab dip.
Despite the disappointment, Haley’s loyal supporters urged her to press on with her campaign.
“If she loses South Carolina, she should continue to run until Super Tuesday, and then at that point reevaluate,” suggested Gregory Mooshagian, an independent voter who cast his ballot for Haley.
“Just keep going,” echoed Laurice Williamson, a retired Charleston resident.
The atmosphere in the ballroom defied expectations for a presidential candidate who had lost her home state’s primary. The most enthusiastic supporters were the “Women For Nikki” group.
Julian Buxton, a retail book store owner from Charleston, passionately expressed his support, stating, “I have encouraged all my Republican friends and family to vote for Nikki Haley, our past South Carolina governor, because in that way it can help save democracy. Nikki Haley is for democracy.”
While Haley’s path to securing the GOP nomination appears uncertain following consecutive losses in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and her home state, she continues to resonate with independent and centrist voters, according to exit polls. This could potentially open up an alternative path for her on a unity ticket with the group No Labels, which aims to offer an alternative to Trump and Biden in November.
The next nominating contest will take place in Michigan on Tuesday, followed by Super Tuesday on March 5, which will feature 16 GOP contests, including delegate-rich states like California and Texas.

What challenges does Nikki Haley face in her pursuit of the presidency?
Bers of Americans who are looking for a new direction, a fresh voice, and I believe I can be that voice.”
Haley, a Republican and former governor of South Carolina, has long been considered a rising star within the party. Supporters admire her strong leadership and diplomatic skills during her tenure as ambassador to the United Nations, where she advocated for American interests and stood up to international adversaries. Many see her as a potential unifier who can bridge the gap between different factions within the Republican Party.
Despite her defeat in her home state, Haley remains undeterred in her pursuit of the presidency. She believes that her message of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and American exceptionalism resonates with a significant portion of the American population.
During her campaign, Haley has positioned herself as a centrist conservative, aiming to appeal to a broad swath of voters across the political spectrum. She has spoken out against the extreme policies of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party while also distancing herself from the divisive rhetoric and controversial actions of the Trump administration.
However, Haley’s path to the presidency will not be without challenges. Not only does she face a crowded field of Republican contenders, but she also needs to overcome the formidable fundraising and political machinery of the Democratic Party. Additionally, she must navigate the changing dynamics of the Republican Party, which have become more unpredictable and volatile in recent years.
Nevertheless, Haley’s determination and resilience are evident in her refusal to back down despite setbacks. Her commitment to the American people and her belief in her own abilities drive her to continue the fight for the presidency.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Haley’s candidacy will undoubtedly generate significant attention and require her to build a robust campaign infrastructure. She will need to win over voters in key primary states, secure endorsements from influential party figures, and articulate a compelling vision for the future of the country.
While the road ahead may be challenging, Haley remains confident and ready to face whatever obstacles lie in her path. She is determined to offer American voters a credible alternative and a fresh perspective in a political landscape that often feels stagnant and polarized.
If she is successful in her quest for the presidency, Nikki Haley would not only make history as the first female president of the United States but also as a leader committed to bringing unity and progress to a divided nation.
As she concluded her speech at the election night party, Haley addressed her supporters with a resounding message:
“This campaign is about more than just winning an election. It’s about reinvigorating our democracy, restoring trust in our government, and reclaiming the American dream for all its citizens. I believe in the potential of this great nation, and I’m ready to fight for it. Together, we can make a difference.”
With these words, Nikki Haley made it clear that she is prepared to battle on, determined to make her mark on the political landscape and inspire a new era of leadership in the United States.
