Gallup Poll: Americans’ Top Concern is Biden’s Border Invasion
A New Gallup poll reveals that a record number of Americans now view illegal immigration as a “critical threat” to the nation’s vital interests. The blame for this invasion is being placed squarely on President Joe Biden and his left-leaning allies.
The latest survey conducted by Gallup, which included over 1,000 adults nationwide from Feb. 1-20, shows that 55 percent of respondents believe that “large numbers of immigrants entering the United States illegally” pose a “critical threat” to the nation. This is an 8 percentage point increase from last year’s poll and surpasses the previous high of 50 percent recorded in 2004.
“Significantly more Americans name immigration as the most important problem facing the U.S. (28%) than did a month ago (20%),” notes the renowned national pollster. “Immigration has now surpassed the government as the most frequently cited problem, after the two issues were tied for the top position in the past two months.”
Concern over the illegal immigration crisis is at its highest level in over 40 years of Gallup tracking.
The poll also reveals that congressional job approval has plummeted to just 12 percent, the lowest rating for the legislative body since November 2015.
Gallup conducted the poll as a controversial border “reform” bill, which was essentially a guise for more Ukraine funding and would have perpetuated the ongoing illegal immigration threat, faltered in the U.S. Senate. The deal, largely orchestrated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., would have faced certain defeat in the Republican-controlled House.
Biden’s approval rating on immigration has dropped to 28 percent, a personal low for the Democrat, according to the new Gallup poll. This is down from a CBS poll last month that found only 32 percent of respondents approved of Biden’s handling of border security, an all-time low at that time. The latest monthly Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, released on Monday, records a 35 percent approval rating for Biden on immigration, his lowest rating on any issue in that survey.
“While many Americans regard the economy, generally, or inflation, specifically, as the most important problem facing the U.S., far more name immigration,” states Gallup in an overview of the poll. “Immigration now sits alone at the top of the most important problem list, something it has done only occasionally in Gallup’s trend and not since 2019.”
Biden’s Border Debacle Hitting Home
Even the biased media can’t cover up the failures of President Biden and the disastrous consequences of his immigration policies. The left, which advocates for open borders, can no longer ignore the alarming statistics.
In fiscal year 2020, during the final year of President Donald Trump’s term, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded approximately 400,000 encounters with illegal aliens attempting to enter the southwest United States. Three years later, under Biden’s watch, agents encountered 2.4 million illegal immigrants at the border with Mexico, and 3.2 million nationwide.
Faced with abysmal poll numbers and a real threat to his chances of re-election, Biden audaciously told 30 governors last week that his hands are tied when it comes to cleaning up the mess he has created. In a brazen lie, the president claimed at a White House meeting that he is not to blame for the border debacle and urged the governors to pressure their members of Congress to pass the ”bipartisan security bill” that recently failed.
Half of the nation’s governors are standing with Texas in its right to defend itself against the influx of illegal immigrants attempting to flood the state. The Biden administration has opposed Governor Greg Abbott’s efforts to address the dangerous gaps created by the administration’s failure to secure the border.
“Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President Joe Biden’s open border policies,” stated a press release from Governor Abbott’s office after he welcomed 13 fellow Republican governors to Eagle Pass, a border town overwhelmed by illegal aliens.
Biden’s helpless act is not resonating with the American people. Ira Mehlman, media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), pointed out that since taking office, Biden has had the authority to tighten security at the southwest border, at the very least by maintaining the existing policies.
“The law is not only clear that he not only can enforce immigration laws, he is required to enforce them and he simply has been ignoring them,” said Mehlman in an interview last week.
In fact, Biden has signed numerous executive orders that have reversed Trump’s efforts to secure the border. One of his first acts as president was to halt construction of the border wall. Biden reinstated catch-and-release and ended the remain-in-Mexico policy, among other actions that have effectively erased the United States’ southwest border.
“I’m not making new law. I’m eliminating bad policy,” Biden said at the time.
The consequences have been devastating, extending far beyond the border. From major cities grappling with an influx of illegal aliens to small towns dealing with rising crime and a fatal fentanyl epidemic, Americans are experiencing the direct impact of Biden’s border policies.
Last week, 22-year-old University of Georgia nursing student Laken Hope Riley was assaulted, kidnapped, and murdered. An illegal immigrant from Venezuela has been arrested in connection with the crime, according to law enforcement. The suspect is expected to face multiple charges. Corporate media outlets are attempting to downplay the fact that the suspect is an illegal immigrant, but the American people are aware of the deadly consequences of Biden’s open border policies. The latest poll numbers confirm this.
Organizations like the Job Creators Network are determined to ensure that Americans remember who is responsible for the border crisis. JCN recently displayed a billboard in New York City’s Times Square featuring a video of NYPD officers being attacked by a group of illegal immigrants. The billboard’s message to the president and the nation is clear: “Hey Joe! If cops aren’t safe because of your open borders, nobody is.”

How have President Biden and his administration’s policies on immigration impacted public opinion and approval ratings
Illegal Immigration Viewed as a “Critical Threat” by Record Number of Americans
A recent Gallup poll has highlighted a growing concern among Americans regarding illegal immigration, with a record number of respondents considering it a “critical threat” to the nation’s vital interests. This sentiment has been widely attributed to President Joe Biden and his left-leaning allies.
Conducted between February 1 and 20, the Gallup survey included over 1,000 adults nationwide. The results revealed that 55 percent of respondents view “large numbers of immigrants entering the United States illegally” as a significant threat, marking an 8 percentage point increase from the previous year and surpassing the previous high of 50 percent recorded in 2004.
Gallup states that “significantly more Americans name immigration as the most important problem facing the U.S.,” with 28 percent of respondents now citing it as such, compared to 20 percent in the previous month. This latest poll also marks the highest level of concern about illegal immigration in over 40 years of Gallup tracking.
Additionally, congressional job approval has plummeted to a mere 12 percent, the lowest rating for the legislative body since November 2015. The timing of this poll coincided with a controversial border “reform” bill that ultimately failed in the U.S. Senate, further contributing to the erosion of trust in lawmakers.
President Biden’s approval rating on immigration has also suffered, dropping to 28 percent, according to the Gallup poll. This decline follows a previous CBS poll that found a mere 32 percent approval rating for Biden’s handling of border security, an all-time low at the time. A recent monthly Harvard CAPS/Harris poll places Biden’s immigration approval rating at 35 percent, his lowest rating on any issue within that survey.
The prominence of immigration as a pressing concern is evident in Gallup’s assessment of the poll. Despite other economic and inflation concerns, immigration now stands alone as the most important problem facing the United States, a position it has only occasionally held in Gallup’s trend and has not held since 2019.
The consequences of President Biden’s immigration policies and their apparent failures are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore, even among biased media outlets. The left, typically advocating for open borders, can no longer dismiss the alarming statistics associated with illegal immigration.
Under Biden’s administration, Customs and Border Protection encountered a staggering 2.4 million illegal immigrants at the border with Mexico and 3.2 million nationwide, dwarfing the roughly 400,000 encounters recorded during the final year of President Donald Trump’s term.
Facing dismal poll numbers and a potential threat to his chances of re-election, President Biden audaciously claimed his hands were tied and shifted blame onto Congress during a meeting with 30 governors. However, numerous governors, notably from Republican-led states such as Texas, have pushed back against the administration’s failure to secure the border.
Governor Greg Abbott of Texas, supported by 13 fellow Republican governors, highlighted the impact of Biden’s open border policies on communities across the nation. Despite Biden claiming he lacks the authority to address the border crisis, his ability to enforce existing immigration laws has been called into question by immigration experts.
In fact, since assuming office, President Biden has signed a series of executive orders reversing Trump’s border security efforts, including halting the construction of the border wall and reinstating catch-and-release policies. These actions have effectively dismantled Trump’s policies and weakened the security of the United States’ southwest border.
As public concern reaches unprecedented levels, it is clear that illegal immigration is no longer a peripheral issue but one that demands immediate attention. The record number of Americans viewing it as a “critical threat” sends a strong message to the Biden administration and policymakers alike. The consequences of inaction or failed policies in the face of this crisis could have lasting repercussions for the nation’s security and prosperity.
