The House Committee on Education and the Workforce, which is already investigating several top American schools for their failure to combat anti-Semitism, has received a detailed report outlining the escalating events at Northwestern. Virginia Foxx (R., N.C.), to include Northwestern in its ongoing anti-Semitism probe, which aims to expose the negligence of top schools in addressing Jew-hatred on their campuses.
“The committee is very concerned by the reports of anti-Semitic incidents from students at Northwestern,” the spokesperson said. “Institutions allowing or embracing hostility against Jewish students demands scrutiny.”
Michael Rutsky, a student at Northwestern’s Pritzker School of Law who assisted in compiling the documentation provided to Congress, has revealed that the school has attempted to discredit their claims since going public with their concerns. Rutsky expressed his disappointment, stating that it does not feel like Northwestern is genuinely concerned about the numerous reports of anti-Semitic incidents.
Since the Free Beacon reported on their complaint, Northwestern has rebuked their letter, dismissing it as containing “numerous inaccuracies and exaggerations.” Rutsky emphasized that no student wants to write a 33-page letter to Congress about anti-Semitism at their school, and the indifference shown by their school is disheartening.
Northwestern has not responded to the Free Beacon’s request for comment.
According to Rutsky, anti-Semitism has continued to run rampant at Northwestern since the initial complaint was filed with House investigators.
For instance, on March 1, a landmark on Northwestern’s campus was defaced with the words “Rest in Resistance Aaron Bushnell.” This refers to the 25-year-old U.S. serviceman who set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., to protest alleged “genocide” by Israel.
This week, five Northwestern student law groups are hosting a “Palestine Teach-In” featuring several professors and supporters of the global movement to economically boycott Israel. Among the participants is Omar Shakir, a supporter of the anti-Semitic Boycott Divestment, and Sanctions movement, who works for Human Rights Watch, an NGO known for promoting anti-Israel propaganda.
Rutsky stated that there seems to be no end in sight when the school is left to self-police acceptable behavior. He respectfully calls on the House Committee to exercise its oversight powers and investigate Northwestern’s pervasive anti-Semitism problem.
According to the students’ report, an “all out for Palestine” event held in November of last year, a month after Hamas murdered over 1,200 Jews, featured students proudly posing next to Hamas flags. These flags were carried by individuals wearing paramilitary fatigues similar to those worn by Hamas. During this event, a Jewish student reported hiding in their apartment to avoid the anti-Israel mob rallying across campus.
Students have also discovered anti-Semitic flyers on campus, including near their living quarters. One flyer depicted a Star of David, images of red blood, and a photo of a child, titled “Murdered by Israel,” according to the complaint.
