Trump backs Nancy Mace despite prior disputes
Former President Donald Trump Endorses Rep. Nancy Mace for Third Term
“It is my great honor to endorse a strong conservative voice for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “Nancy Mace worked tirelessly campaigning across South Carolina in support of our record-breaking win. In Congress, she is fighting to secure the border, strengthen our military, support our veterans, uphold the rule of law, stop political weaponization, and protect and defend our always under siege Second Amendment. Congresswoman Nancy Mace has my complete and total endorsement!”
Mace, who endorsed Trump for president in January, celebrated the former president’s endorsement on social media. She urged her supporters to contribute to her campaign as she faces a crowded Republican primary field, which includes her former chief of staff.
While Mace and Trump have endorsed each other, their relationship has had its ups and downs. Mace worked on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign but was also critical of his actions following the Capitol riot in January 2021. She suggested censuring him and voted against impeaching him.
Even when endorsing Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, Mace did so with less enthusiasm than others who received his backing.
Trump’s endorsement of Mace is a departure from his previous support for primary opponent Katie Arrington in 2022. He called Mace an “absolutely terrible candidate” and criticized her remarks and attitude.
Mace defeated Arrington in the 2022 Republican primary and comfortably won reelection in her district. The Republican congressional primary elections in South Carolina are scheduled for June 11.
Despite previous criticism and a less enthusiastic endorsement, how does the current endorsement by former President Donald Trump affect Representative Nancy Mace’s campaign strategy for her third term in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District?
Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Representative Nancy Mace for a third term in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. In a post on his new social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his great honor in endorsing Mace, whom he hailed as a strong conservative voice. He commended her tireless campaigning efforts during his record-breaking victory and praised her commitment to securing the border, strengthening the military, supporting veterans, upholding the rule of law, stopping political weaponization, and protecting the Second Amendment.
Mace, who had previously endorsed Trump for president, enthusiastically celebrated his endorsement on social media. She encouraged her supporters to contribute to her campaign as she faces a crowded Republican primary field, which includes her former chief of staff. Despite their mutual endorsements, Mace and Trump have experienced some ups and downs in their relationship. While she worked on Trump’s 2016 campaign, Mace also expressed criticism of his actions following the Capitol riot in January 2021. Although she suggested censuring him, she ultimately voted against impeaching him.
Even when endorsing Trump’s potential 2024 presidential campaign, Mace did so with less enthusiasm compared to others who received his backing. Nonetheless, Trump’s endorsement of Mace marks a departure from his previous support for her primary opponent, Katie Arrington, in 2022. Trump had referred to Mace as an “absolutely terrible candidate” and criticized her remarks and attitude. However, Mace ultimately emerged victorious over Arrington in the 2022 Republican primary and comfortably won re-election in her district.
The South Carolina Republican congressional primary elections are scheduled for June 11, providing voters with an opportunity to choose their preferred candidate to represent the 1st Congressional District. With Trump’s endorsement, Mace aims to solidify her position as the favored conservative candidate, showcasing her alignment with Trump’s values and policies. With her previous experience and campaign efforts, Mace is primed to vie for a third term as a congresswoman, bringing her brand of conservatism to the forefront of South Carolina politics.
