I deny his Oscar
The 2024 Oscars: Unveiling the Dark Side of Self-Hating Jewish Anti-Semitism
The 2024 Oscars brought forth a groundbreaking revelation, thrusting into the spotlight a behavior that is typically confined to hushed discussions within a marginalized minority group. I’m referring to the phenomenon of self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism, or what can more aptly be described as “onanistic Jewish anti-Semitism” – a twisted form of self-reflection disguised as masturbatory gratification.
Normally, the Oscars is the last place you would expect to encounter self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism. Sure, there are self-hating Jews among us – individuals who fail to show proper respect for their faith and traditions. And given the propensity for misbehavior in the entertainment industry, it’s not surprising that Jews in show business sometimes exhibit self-hatred. However, they usually keep it hidden, often compensating by championing documentaries about Holocaust survivors and elderly Jews in nursing homes to demonstrate a semblance of empathy.
But what about anti-Semitism? It has occurred, albeit infrequently. One infamous incident took place almost half a century ago when Vanessa Redgrave, upon receiving her Academy Award, made a repugnant reference to “Zionist hoodlums.” She was incensed by the protests against her support for the Palestine Liberation Organization. Unable to physically harm her detractors, she resorted to attacking them from the Oscars stage. Paddy Chayefsky, a writer, later delivered a scathing rebuke, reminding Redgrave that her award was not a historic turning point and a simple “Thank you” would have sufficed. She was never invited back to the Oscars stage again.
Now, you might argue that despite her repulsive behavior, Redgrave is a talented actress, and we should separate her art from her personal beliefs. Fine, but why do we even need Vanessa Redgrave? She is merely a classic example of a Gentile anti-Semite – an upper middle-class British individual who, instead of obsessing over small yappy dogs like her counterparts, became infatuated with radical politics under the influence of Bertrand Russell.
Fast forward to March 10, 2024, when the Oscars witnessed a display of ignorance and talent from the likes of Billie Eilish. Eilish, who seems unsure of her sexual orientation, dietary preferences, and sings as if she’s reliant on an oxygen tank, attended the Oscars adorned with buttons advocating for a “ceasefire” in a region she probably couldn’t locate on a map. The design of these buttons deliberately evoked the image of a Palestinian terrorist who proudly displayed his blood-soaked hands after brutally murdering two Israeli teenagers in Ramallah twenty-five years prior.
Shockingly, numerous individuals proudly wore these buttons, essentially celebrating the slaughter of two Jewish teenagers. Congratulations to these morally bankrupt buffoons who can’t spare five seconds to research the devices they use to perpetuate their “social” existence. They now bear the figurative bloodstains of their actions. Are they happy?
The Category of “Self-Hating Jewish Anti-Semitism”
Returning to the category I initially mentioned, “self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism,” it provided the only memorable moment at the Oscars after the British-Jewish filmmaker Jonathan Glazer won the International Feature award for his movie, The Zone of Interest. Set adjacent to Auschwitz, the film supposedly conveys the horrors of the Holocaust through the sounds that traverse the wall between the commandant’s house and the death camp.
Some might argue that Glazer’s victory was the Oscars’ way of playing the Holocaust card in 2024, and boy, did Glazer play it. Standing alongside his two producers, including a Russian oligarch named Len Blavatnik, Glazer visibly trembled with what appeared to be terror as he unfolded a piece of paper and read aloud:
“Our film shows where dehumanization leads, at its worst. It shaped all of our past and present. Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation, which has led to conflict for so many innocent people. Whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?”
We can spend a few seconds dissecting the meaning of this poorly constructed statement, or until the next anti-Semitic attack occurs as a direct consequence of October 7th – whichever comes first (and we can guess which will come first). Regardless, it is undeniably repugnant.
Let’s take it literally for a moment. If Glazer and his producers truly “refute their Jewishness,” it is deeply troubling. They are rejecting their Jewish identity while accepting an award for a film that delves into the systematic destruction of Jewish existence. Anti-Semites are eagerly rushing to defend Glazer against accusations of “refuting his Jewishness.” Instead, they argue that he is refuting the notion that Jewishness justifies Israeli actions after October 7th or the so-called “occupation” – whatever convoluted reasoning these self-satisfied individuals concoct as the “root cause” of their disapproval.
Glazer’s defenders include notable figures such as Matt Duss, a former Bernie Sanders aide who was photographed in a Hamas tunnel, Mehdi Hasan, a recently ousted MSNBC host and Hamas apologist, Waleed Shahid, a Democratic strategist, and Chris Hayes of MSNBC. Hayes, a former radical magazine journalist turned charismatic TV personality, despises Israel almost as much as he adores his $5 million salary paid by the Jewish-owned Comcast. Chris, it’s blood money! Give it back! Otherwise, it might fall into the hands of the “occupiers”!
Hayes should know better than to involve himself in this debate. He should refrain from opining on what constitutes anti-Semitism, especially after hosting Al Sharpton on his show for years. Sharpton, who has contributed to the refutation of Jewish existence, once incited people to rally against a business in Harlem, resulting in a fire that claimed seven lives. Sharpton continued to evade accountability, terrorizing Democratic politicians and devouring their souls instead of the fatty foods that once defined his rotund figure.
Glazer, you can refute your Jewishness all you want, but if a terrorist were to target a synagogue in Golders Green where your nephew was celebrating his bar mitzvah, you would be just as dead as if you hadn’t “refuted” it. The problem is that they want to kill Jews, and you are a Jew. Your refutation is inconsequential.
The issue at hand is not whether Glazer is comfortable with his Jewish identity, but rather the fact that he lives a life fraught with existential danger after October 7th because of it. He should understand this better than anyone, considering his film explores how merely being Jewish exposes one to attempts at mass extermination.
This is the story of Jewry since time immemorial – a small tribe struggling to survive amidst the world’s relentless efforts to annihilate it. How can we comprehend the miraculous fact that not only has this tribe endured, but it has also reclaimed its homeland and transformed a barren desert into the 27th wealthiest nation on Earth?
Yet, Jonathan Glazer seems to have an issue with that country. Apparently, he views it as an “occupier” that “dehumanizes” others, much like the Nazis dehumanized the Jews. Let’s disregard the fact that Israel hasn’t “occupied” Gaza since 2005 and that its current actions are not an “occupation” but rather a war against the Hamas terrorist organization. It’s not “dehumanizing.” It’s something else entirely. It’s no more dehumanizing than the destruction of Germany to eradicate the Nazis – a concept that Glazer presumably supports, as without it, he wouldn’t have the Oscar he can metaphorically shove up his backside for eternity.
Oh, it’s great that Oppenheimer won, even though the real Oppenheimer was a Communist.
How does self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism perpetuate harmful stereotypes and undermine Jewish pride and unity?
Ves. But I digress.
Conclusion
The 2024 Oscars not only showcased remarkable talent but also shed light on a disturbing and, until now, largely unspoken issue within the Jewish community – self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism. From Billie Eilish’s misguided advocacy for a “ceasefire” using buttons that celebrated the murder of two Jewish teenagers, to Jonathan Glazer’s acceptance speech that rejected his own Jewish identity while accepting an award for a film about the Holocaust, these incidents demonstrate the dark side of self-hatred within the Jewish community.
It is crucial that we address and confront self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism, as it not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes but also undermines Jewish pride and unity. We cannot allow individuals who reject their Jewishness to hijack and distort the legacy of the Holocaust to support their own misguided political agendas. It is a betrayal to all those who suffered and died.
Furthermore, we must challenge the ignorance and misinformation that feeds into self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism. The entertainment industry should be held accountable for promoting and perpetuating these harmful narratives. We must demand better education, awareness, and representation within the industry to ensure that the voices of all Jewish people are heard and respected.
In conclusion, the 2024 Oscars served as a wake-up call, exposing the prevalence of self-hating Jewish anti-Semitism. It is imperative that we work together to combat this harmful phenomenon, reclaiming Jewish pride and unity, and ensuring that the true history and legacy of the Jewish people are honored and respected.
