Israel confirms another American killed in Hamas attack on Oct. 7
Israel Defense Forces Confirm Death of IDF Sergeant Itay Chen
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have officially confirmed the tragic death of IDF sergeant Itay Chen, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, during Hamas’s invasion of Israel on October 7th.
Chen, who was only 19 years old, lost his life during the surprise attack on Israel’s Nahal Oz military base by Hamas terrorists. Shockingly, his body is still being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Chen’s father, Robby, that the family recently received new intelligence regarding Chen’s fate after his death. He added that the chief military rabbi confirmed his death based on thorough examination and reliable information.
The news of Chen’s death brings the confirmed number of Americans killed in the October 7th attack to at least 34. According to the State Department, at least 23 Americans, most of whom were serving in the IDF, have also been fatally wounded in the aftermath of the attack. Chen was one of six Americans who were still believed to be held captive by Hamas in Gaza.
President Joe Biden expressed his devastation upon hearing about Chen’s death. He recalled how Itay’s father and brother had visited the White House in December to share their agony and uncertainty while praying for their loved one’s safe return. Biden wrote on X, “No one should have to endure even one day of what they have gone through.”
“Today, as we join Itay’s parents, brothers, and family in grieving this tragic loss, I reaffirm my pledge to all the families of those still held hostage: We are with you. We will never stop working to bring your loved ones home,” the president added.
Biden’s remarks come at a time of mounting pressure from Democratic voters who are demanding a permanent ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. A campaign called Listen to Michigan expressed their strong rejection of Biden’s funding of the war and genocide in Gaza ahead of last month’s Michigan primary. In that primary, Biden lost over 100,000 Democratic votes to the ”uncommitted” option.
How has Israel’s Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, reacted to the attack and what steps does he plan to take against Hamas

The U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Thomas Nides, expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and called on Hamas to immediately release Chen’s body and allow his family to properly mourn their loss.
The IDF has vowed to do everything in its power to bring Chen’s body back to Israel for a dignified burial. In a statement, the IDF said, “We will not rest until we bring Itay Chen home, a fallen IDF soldier who fought bravely to protect our nation. We extend our deepest condolences to the Chen family and stand with them during this difficult time.”
Chen’s tragic death highlights the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has resulted in the loss of numerous lives and has continued to escalate. The invasion on October 7th marked one of the deadliest attacks in recent years and has raised concerns about the security situation in the region.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, has condemned Hamas for the attack and vowed to take strong action against the terrorist organization. He stated, “We will respond with great strength, our enemies need to know that we will not hesitate to protect our people and defend our borders.”
The international community has also expressed its condemnation of the attack and called for an immediate de-escalation of violence. U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the attack and expressed his support for Israel’s right to defend itself. He stated, “We stand with Israel and fully support its right to self-defense against terrorist attacks.”
The death of Itay Chen serves as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by brave soldiers who put their lives on the line to protect their country. As the IDF continues its efforts to bring Chen’s body back home, the world watches and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
