Olivia Munn Shares News of Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Olivia Munn’s Brave Battle with Breast Cancer
Courageously opening up about her health, Olivia Munn shared her breast cancer diagnosis and her proactive approach in 2023, which included a life-altering double mastectomy to combat the aggressive disease.
Turning to Instagram, the 43-year-old actress gave a raw account of her unexpected journey—going from a negative result on a comprehensive genetic cancer screening to confronting a cancer diagnosis within a mere two months.
…
“In the past ten months, I have had four surgeries, countless days in bed, and through it all, I surprisingly found myself crying just twice,” Munn revealed. “It seems there wasn’t a moment to spare for tears.”
“I’ve presented the stronger side of me to the world—when I could gather the energy, dress up, and take my baby boy to the park,” she continued. “The diagnosis, worries, recovery, and pain remained behind closed doors. I needed a moment to navigate this storm before sharing it openly.”
Olivia’s Path to Diagnosis
The ‘The Newsroom’ star credited a life-saving decision by her doctor—who calculated her “Breast Cancer Risk Assessment” score, leading to a crucial MRI. This was swiftly followed by an ultrasound and a biopsy.
“The biopsy results confirmed Luminal B cancer in both breasts—an aggressive, fast-moving variant,” Munn expressed.

A Stroke of Fortune
Grateful for the timely detection, Munn underwent a double mastectomy. “I count myself incredibly lucky that it was caught at a stage where I had choices,” she noted.
Extending her gratitude, Olivia added, “I’m immeasurably thankful for my friends and family who’ve been my rock through this.”
She went on to urge women to discuss the “Breast Cancer Risk Assessment” with their doctors, possibly paving the way for early detection in others.
Munn, alongside comedian John Mulaney—her partner since 2021—welcomed their son Malcolm to the world in November of the same year.
