Jenna Bush Reveals Her Dad Embraced SNL Teasing
A Touch of Humor: Jenna Bush Hager on Her Father’s Take on SNL Parodies
Jenna Bush Hager recently gave us a glimpse into the lighter side of the Bush household. She revealed that her father, the former President George W. Bush, not only tolerated the good-natured jabs from programs like “Saturday Night Live” but actually took pleasure in them.
On an insightful segment of “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” Jenna opened up about her dad’s laid-back approach to comedy. With a chuckle, she explained that her own “love language” is “gently roasting” those closest to her—a trait that clearly runs in the family.
Jenna reminisced, “I like to harass my dad,” candidly sharing those intimate family moments. “Like when he was the president, Barbara and I would show him… like the ‘Saturday Night Lives’ where they made fun of him and stuff. He loved it!”
A Father’s Endearing Sense of Humor
Delight filled Jenna’s voice as she recounted, “Like when Will Ferrell [impersonated him], but there were other comedians who also did things.” She recalled a particularly amusing moment: “Once, we were at the gym and there was a bumper sticker that said, ‘A Village in Texas Is Missing Its Idiot.'”
Jenna and Barbara spotted the sticker, processed the jab, and then shared it with their father. His reaction? Utter amusement. ”He thought it was hilarious,” Jenna added with a smile.

Her co-host Kotb wisely pointed out, “If you can’t laugh at yourself, then you feel like there’s some truth to it.”
Jenna continued with some presidential real-talk, “But also, if you’re going to be the President of the United States, people are going to make fun of you. And guess what — it ain’t just about you. That’s how it is, man. That’s how it is, that’s how it’s always been!”
The chemistry between Jenna and her father has always been palpable, especially when she speaks of their bond with fondness. In a past episode, she shared a memory of when then-fiance Henry Chase Hager and she considered eloping—a plan suggested by President Bush himself! “My dad wanted us to elope because it was a pain,” she laughed. “He was like, ‘What are y’all doing? Y’all should just elope.”

Despite the allure of a simple elopement, Jenna and Henry chose a traditional wedding at the pristinely beautiful Prairie Chapel Ranch near Crawford, Texas, creating an unforgettable experience. “The wedding was spectacular,” said President Bush, reflecting on the ceremony. “It’s all we could have hoped for. It was just a special day and a wonderful day, and we’re mighty blessed.”
With three children and a trove of cherished memories, Jenna’s family continues to thrive on love, laughter, and the occasional gentle tease. It’s a Bush family hallmark that even the highest office in the land couldn’t change.
