Almost One-Third of Gen Z Women Self-Identify as LGBT, Reveals Gallup Survey

The Rise of ‍LGBT Identification Among Gen Z Adults

Breakthrough data uncovers a remarkable ⁣shift within Generation Z: over one-fifth of its adults now embrace an LGBT ‌identity, ⁤including a stunning 30% of Gen‌ Z women.

The Growing Numbers

An eye-opening ⁤ 22% of young adults, aged 18 to 26 years, are self-identifying as LGBT, ‍a Gallup poll recently ‌revealed. But it’s not just Gen Z. The percentages show a clear pattern; with ‍ nearly double⁢ the rate of LGBT identification found in millennials, and significantly larger proportions‌ compared to‌ Generation X, baby boomers, and ‌the Silent Generation.

‍ “Overall, each younger‌ generation is about twice as likely as the generation that preceded⁣ it to identify as ‍LGBTQ+,” the report elucidates.

These rising numbers have propelled the ⁣overall adult LGBT identification rate to 7.6% last year—a‍ historical peak—up from‌ just 3.5% in 2012. ‍This⁢ increase is largely influenced by Generation Z ⁢women, with an ⁢ impressive 30% taking pride in⁣ this ⁢aspect of their identity, ‍notably within bisexual demographics.

Zooming In: The Figures Behind the Trends

⁣ ‌
⁣ ⁤ “That’s where a lot of the growth seems to be happening,” says Jeffrey ⁢Jones, a senior editor at ⁣Gallup, discussing the ‌influential ⁣role of Gen Z women in this trend.

Not to be ⁣overshadowed, many ‍millennial women, 9% to be⁤ precise, also identify with bisexuality. When‌ looking⁣ at the ⁢larger picture, bisexual individuals accounted for ⁣ more‌ than half, precisely 57%, of those who expressed an LGBT identity, ⁢translating⁢ to 4.4% of all surveyed adults.

⁤ Following bisexuals, gay men, lesbians, and ‌trans-identifying individuals represented 18.1%, 15.1%, and 11.8%⁣ of the LGBT figures⁢ respectively. Meanwhile, pansexual and asexual people made up less than 2% of the LGBT-identifying adults.

Moreover, the ‌survey highlights that women are nearly twice as prone to identify as LGBT compared to⁢ men.

A Deeper Focus on‌ Gender and Identity

‌
Concerns have surfaced about the growing number of teenage girls identifying as transgender and the subsequent‍ search for medical treatments, the effects of which can ‌be ⁢irreversible.

‍ Teenage girls are⁣ overwhelmingly more likely ⁣than their male ⁣counterparts to seek out such treatments, as per the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

Gallup’s⁢ Insights

‍ Gallup’s⁣ extensive ⁢survey involved⁤ around 12,000⁣ Americans ages 18‍ and above, utilizing telephone interviews to ⁢gather data.

⁣ ‍ ⁣ ‌ “The percentage ‌of U.S.⁤ adults who consider themselves something other ⁢than heterosexual has more than doubled since Gallup first asked⁢ about sexual orientation and transgender⁤ identity in 2012,” the Gallup report states emphatically.

‍With young Americans leading the charge in shifting norms⁤ and identities, a⁢ projection⁢ is set—a likelihood that the percentage of LGBT-identifying adults could surpass 10% within ⁣three decades, assuming current trends persist.
