Pence Declines to Support Trump’s 2024 Presidential Bid
A Surprising Shift in Political Alliances
In a move that’s stirred up the political arena, Mike Pence made it clear last Friday he won’t be extending his support to Donald Trump for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
This revelation dropped just as Trump clinched a significant milestone, amassing over 1,215 delegates essential for the Republican nomination. This feat sets the stage potentially for a 2020 election rematch with President Joe Biden.
“Endorsing Donald Trump is not a part of my plans this year,” Pence announced on Fox News, responding to Martha MacCallum’s inquiry on whether he intended to support the former President.

The Pence-Trump Dynamic
The partnership of Pence and Trump was front and center for four years, including their combined effort seeking re-election in 2020, which ultimately culminated in a Biden victory.
Pence, who briefly sought the presidency himself, pledged to endorse whoever emerged as the nominee for the Republican party. His campaign, however, was suspended last October due to lukewarm reception within a crowded GOP field.
Diverging Paths
“I hold our administration’s conservative achievements in high regard,” Pence commented to Fox News. Yet, he acknowledged a rift had formed with Trump, stemming from disagreements on several fronts, including Pence’s adherence to constitutional duties during the 2020 election certification process.
“My presidential bid brought to light the profound differences that have developed between myself and President Trump. This isn’t just about our divergent views regarding the events of January 6th,” Pence elaborated.
He continued to highlight where they’ve parted ways ideologically: “I’ve watched Trump abandon our commitments—from addressing the national debt and respecting the sanctity of life, to recent hesitations in taking a firm stance on China and the TikTok deal our administration aimed to revoke.”
Pence, with his initiative Advancing American Freedom, recently launched a $20 million campaign championing conservative values. He argues that Trump’s current trajectory strays from the conservative ethos they once championed together.
“The agenda Trump is now pushing forward contradicts our administration’s conservative governance. It’s this deviation that prevents me from endorsing him for another presidential run,” Pence affirmed.
