House Republicans are intensifying their probe into a dark chapter that has gripped the nation—an investigation which now stretches beyond the Venezuelan immigrant charged with the heinous murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. Their recent correspondence with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas—who himself faces an uncertain future following an impeachment by the House—calls for transparency on the dealings between Jose Antonio Ibarra’s brothers and U.S. officials.

Diego and Argenis Ibarra, brothers to the accused, managed to slip through the cracks of the U.S. border at Eagle Pass, Texas. Despite their initial “expulsion” under Title 42, they brazenly re-entered weeks later, with Diego’s release by ICE, even after a hostile encounter involving a Border Patrol agent, striking a discordant note.
“In spite of attempting to bite a Border Patrol agent, Diego was released under Alternatives to Detention by ICE. Argenis was handed a notice to appear in immigration court,” highlighted Jordan and McClintock in their letter.
