House Freedom‍ Caucus Removes Rep. Ken Buck Before Retirement

The House Freedom​ Caucus has reportedly removed one of its‍ members from the hardline Republican group,⁣ just days before the lawmaker is set to retire⁤ from Congress.

The caucus voted Tuesday night to remove Rep. Ken‌ Buck (R-CO), according to the Hill. The group decided to oust Buck⁤ over claims the Colorado Republican has not been in “good standing” with​ the‍ caucus and has not regularly attended their⁢ meetings in months, the⁤ outlet reported.

Buck’s Reaction and Early Retirement

Buck confirmed his ouster to Politico on Wednesday,⁤ saying ⁤he was informed⁢ of the decision the night before. A representative for ⁢Buck declined to confirm the ​Colorado Republican’s​ removal to the Washington​ Examiner.

Buck’s removal comes just days before he is ​set to step down from ⁢office on March ⁣22, retiring early due to ⁣what he considers a dysfunctional House that has “devolved into bickering and nonsense.”

Buck’s‌ early retirement also contributed ⁤to his removal, according to the ‍Hill. ⁢One source told the outlet “he ⁢hasn’t been with conservatives on several ‍major issues” and “is leaving the conference ⁤hanging with ⁤a​ historically narrow margin.”
