Hogan holds strong lead over Democratic rivals in Maryland Senate race: Poll
Former Maryland GOP Governor Larry Hogan Takes Strong Lead in Senate Race
The latest poll data released on Wednesday reveals that Larry Hogan, the former Republican Governor of Maryland, is leading his Democratic contenders by a substantial margin in the race for a key Senate seat.
The poll results showcased Hogan’s remarkable performance, surpassing Rep. David Trone with a significant 49% against Trone’s 37%. Moreover, he also outperformed Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, securing an impressive 50% compared to Alsobrooks’s 36% in these potential matchups.
Challenges and Determination
In a recent statement, Hogan acknowledged the steadfast support he has received from the people of Maryland while emphasizing the uphill battle ahead. Despite his lead, Hogan recognized the tough competition, stating, “The partisan politics in Washington will do anything they can to stop us.”
Expressing his concern over the current state of affairs in Washington, Hogan appealed for unity, urging citizens to come together to address the broken political landscape and convey a resounding message that Washington cannot ignore.
While Maryland tends to lean towards the Democratic side, Hogan’s bipartisan approach during his tenure as governor garnered support from individuals across the political spectrum. However, the recent poll indicates a preference for Democratic Senate control over Republican, posing a significant challenge for Hogan in the upcoming general election.
Path to Victory
A prominent anti-Trump conservative, Hogan entered the Senate race last month, poised to secure the Republican primary scheduled for May 14. Trone and Alsobrooks, his Democratic counterparts, face lower recognition, with 39% of Democratic voters undecided on their preferred candidate. Trone currently holds a slight edge over Alsobrooks, with 34% support compared to her 27%.
With the upcoming November elections determining Sen. Ben Cardin’s successor, the stakes are high for all candidates involved.
The polling data, collected from March 5 to 12, surveyed 1,004 registered Maryland voters through electronic, phone, and email channels, reflecting a margin of error of 3.3 points.
