Mike Pence features in latest GOP ad against Trump
Republican Voters Against Trump Reveals New Campaign Against Former President Donald Trump
The advocacy group Republican Voters Against Trump announced a new six-figure campaign highlighting former Vice President Mike Pence’s refusal to endorse former President Donald Trump in his 2024 campaign.
The 15-second digital ad is set to run in five battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, while the billboard campaign will be featured in Phoenix, Atlanta, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee.
Insights from the Campaign Director
“This is someone who worked with Donald Trump all four years of his presidency. He saw Donald Trump up close and personal every single day,” said John Conway, the group’s director of strategy, in an interview with the Washington Examiner. “His refusal to endorse Donald Trump should sound the alarm for other voters in the country that Donald Trump is unfit to be president again.”
The group is backed by the Republican Accountability PAC, which has taken a stand against Trump’s potential reelection bid.
Mike Pence’s Stand Against Trump: A Critical Move
“Mike Pence knows Donald Trump better than anyone else, and he knows how dangerous a second Trump administration would be,” says a narrator in the ad before a clip shows Pence saying he won’t endorse his former running mate.
The former vice president made it clear last week that he could not support Trump, citing “profound differences” with his one-time boss. Pence, speaking to Fox News’s Martha MacCallum, stated, “It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year.”
Pence stands as the most notable Republican figure declining to support Trump after the latter became the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
The Impact of Pence’s Decision
Gunner Ramer, political director of Republican Voters Against Trump, shared, “Mike Pence joins the ever-growing coalition of Republican Voters Against Trump. Pence served as Trump’s vice president for four years. But even he recognizes who Trump really is: A threat to our democracy who is unfit for office. Pence is putting country over party, and we are going to make sure persuadable voters are aware of his decision.”
Other significant Republicans withholding endorsements include former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), and former Secretary of Defense under Trump Mark Esper.
Republican Voters Against Trump’s Ongoing Efforts
Republican Voters Against Trump recently launched a $50 million campaign against Trump, featuring video testimonials from voters who previously supported Trump but are now reluctant to do so again.
The ads will target key states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, aiming to sway centrists and independents away from the former president.
“Mike Pence’s courageous stand prioritizes country over party. We are dedicated to ensuring voters nationwide understand that Mike Pence won’t be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” Conway emphasized. “Thus, we are amplifying his voice alongside voices of everyday Republican voters from around the country who are making similar decisions.”
