A male was shot at the Brookland-Catholic University of America Metro station on Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the shooting and is advising anyone with information to call 911. Photo evidence shows a male victim being treated on the platform. The victim, who police said appeared to be a teenager, was involved in a fight with another young person when he was struck by a bullet.

Police released a photo of the suspect, describing him as a black male with a black jacket, black hoody, gray square backpack, light blue jeans, and black and white shoes. Police say they do not believe the suspect was involved in the altercation.

An MPD spokesperson told the Washington Examiner at 3:59 p.m. that police were notified of an unconscious male who was not breathing. The homicide team was immediately notified.

MPD said contracted armed security were present at the time of the shooting and helped usher people to safety.

Red line trains bypassed the station in the afternoon. Catholic University of America, located within walking distance from the station, lifted its shelter-in-place order around 6:45 p.m.
