Hillary Clinton’s visit to her alma mater, Wellesley College, was disrupted by protesters condemning her for her lack of support for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Clinton, a former secretary of state, returned to the school on Saturday to celebrate the opening of a center named after her, as well as to attend a democracy-themed summit. Protesters dispersed among the summit’s crowd, however, chanting and holding up signs reading “Hillary for Women Unless They’re Palestinian” and “Hillary, Hillary, you’re a liar; we demand a cease-fire,” according to the New York Times.

Pamphlets circulating around campus ahead of her visit also said Clinton had “blood on her hands” and was the college’s “most beloved war criminal,” according to a local news report.

College campuses have been rife with pro-Palestinian activists calling for Israel to stand down from the counteroffensive it launched in Gaza in October as a retaliatory act on Hamas. The Israel-Hamas war has resulted in mass casualties of civilians and the destruction of homes in Gaza.

Hamas terrorists carried out a deadly surprise attack on Israeli civilians on Oct. 7, killing about 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostage, according to the Israeli military. Hamas is still holding roughly 130 in captivity, the military has said.

Clinton appeared on The View about a month after the Hamas attack to address her opposition to a ceasefire, which has stirred controversy among certain Democratic activists who view Israel as an oppressor that has taken an overly aggressive approach in Gaza.

Clinton said at the time that she had once, while serving as secretary of state, helped to negotiate a ceasefire in the region and said she felt “personally committed to trying to figure out how to help the Israelis and the Palestinians live in peace.”

“But remember, there was a ceasefire on Oct. 6 that Hamas broke by their barbaric assault on peaceful civilians,” Clinton said.
