Bethenny Frankel admits to instilling fear in her 13-year-old daughter about NYC crime
Bethenny Frankel, former “Real Housewives of New York” star, revealed on her podcast that she aims to educate her 13-year-old daughter about NYC crime by instilling fear. This comes after Frankel made headlines for being randomly punched in NYC. She expressed concerns about the city’s safety and shared anecdotes of recent violent incidents to emphasize the need for caution. Bethenny Frankel, a former star of “Real Housewives of New York,” recently disclosed on her podcast her strategy to educate her 13-year-old daughter on NYC crime by using fear. This decision follows Frankel’s experience of being randomly assaulted in New York City, prompting her to raise awareness about safety concerns in the city by recounting recent violent incidents.
“Real Housewives of New York” alum Bethenny Frankel said she’s trying to scare her 13-year-old daughter, Bryn, to make her aware of crime in New York City.
The 53-year-old reality star said during a new episode of her podcast, “Just B,” that she believes the city is different now. Frankel made headlines in late March after she said she was the victim of a random punching attack while walking down the street in Manhattan.
“But [the city has] taken a real beating,” she said. “I was talking today to my publicist and her friend knew someone who was held at gunpoint at Dunkin’ Donuts. My daughter’s friend was held up at gunpoint at Dunkin’ Donuts, coincidentally. My same friend knew someone who got hit in the face with a brick by a homeless person in New York City,” Frankel added.
“I just think of my daughter walking up and down the aisles of CVS and thinking life is normal, and it freaks me out,” she continued.
Later in the episode, the “Real Housewives” star said she tries to convey the risks to her teen. The reality star shares Bryn with ex-husband Jason Hoppy.
“My daughter, anywhere she is, [I’m like,] ‘Wait a minute, how’d you get there? What time is it? Was it dark? Wait a minute.’ I send her every story to the point where I’m annoying. You don’t want to scare your kids. You don’t want to freak them out,” Frankel said.
She added, “What do I do? Scare my kid, freak her out. I’m choosing fear. I want to instill fear in her because my alternative is pain and death and crime. This is what we’re dealing with. The choices for my daughter are ‘instill fear’ or ‘she’s walking through the streets of Manhattan thinking everything’s normal.’”
Frankel said her daughter also carries pepper spray and an alarm with her.

The reality star commented on a video posted by another alleged victim of a random punching attack in March. TikTok influencer Halley Kate shared her story on the social media platform, writing, “You guys, I was literally just walking, and a man came up and punched me in the face. Oh my God, it’s so bad. I can’t even talk.”
Frankel commented on the video, writing, “This is insane bc this happened to me a few months ago but I was embarrassed to say. I was on the UWS [Upper West Side]. Insane. I was taking video of a bakery.”
