Former President Donald Trump wielded his endorsement in a Washington House race on Friday to try and remove one of the two Republicans left who tried to impeach him in 2021.
Trump threw his support behind former NASCAR driver and Navy veteran Jerrod Sessler for the House seat currently occupied by Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), blasting Newhouse as a “weak and pathetic RINO.”
“Jerrod Sessler is a fantastic candidate and will be a GREAT Congressman for Washington State’s 4th Congressional District,” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social. “A Navy Veteran, Entrepreneur, Loving Father and Husband, Jerrod will fight hard every day to secure the Border, stand for the Rule of Law, strengthen our Military, take care of our Vets, Defend our Nation, and protect our always under siege Second Amendment. He is running against a weak and pathetic RINO named Newhouse, who voted to, for no reason, Impeach me. Newhouse has to go! Jerrod Sessler is MAGA all the way, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will never let you down!!!”
Newhouse was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his role in the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6, 2021. But he is one of just two Republicans remaining in the House who voted to impeach him, with Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) being the other.
The endorsement of Sessler marks the second time that Trump has tried to boot Newhouse out of the House. Trump endorsed Newhouse’s Republican opponent in 2022, but Newhouse still won.

Newhouse has not publicly commented on the endorsement, or criticism of his support of impeaching Trump in the aftermath of Jan. 6. Newhouse had also allegedly floated the idea of invoking the 25th Amendment after the riot, which would have forcibly removed Trump from office, according to a book titled This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns.
Sessler welcomed Trump’s endorsement in a post on X, stating he was “honored” to have the former president’s support. Sessler also boasts support from former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and GOP campaign adviser Roger Stone, according to his campaign website.
