Hillary Clinton implies that Trump aims to eliminate his opponents and ban journalists
Hillary Clinton expressed concerns that a second term for Donald Trump could lead to violent measures against political opponents and journalists. She made these comments on the “Defending Democracy” podcast, highlighting parallels with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s tactics. Clinton emphasized that Trump admires Putin’s authoritarian methods and may try to emulate them if re-elected. Hillary Clinton voiced worries about potential violence targeting political rivals and media members in a second term under Donald Trump. Speaking on the “Defending Democracy” podcast, she drew comparisons to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s strategies. Clinton noted Trump’s admiration for Putin’s authoritarian tactics and suggested he might replicate them if re-elected.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton predicted that should former President Donald Trump win a second term in November, he could pursue violent ends to his opposition in politics and in the media.
Clinton appeared on the podcast Defending Democracy in an episode that aired Friday, where she spent the majority of the nearly 45-minute interview discussing Trump, who beat her in the 2016 presidential election, and his supporters. During the interview, Clinton suggested Trump might take a page out of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s book should he retake the office.
“Trump was like, you know, just gaga over Putin because Putin does what Trump would like to do: Kill his opposition, imprison his opposition, drive journalists and others into exile, rule without any check or balance,” Clinton said. “That’s what Trump really wants.”
The former Secretary of State didn’t stop her comparison there, going as far as to say that Trump “is modeling himself after” Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China and Kim Jong-un of North Korea. She suggested his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden, was similar to that of Putin’s strategy.
These comments come months after Putin’s opponent, Alexei Navalny, was announced to have died while in a Russian prison. Navalny was missing for 11 weeks before his death was confirmed by the Kremlin.
“Hillary continues to suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome and can’t seem to accept the results of the 2016 election,” a Trump campaign spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. “So she is now trying to tell herself lies, in addition to trying to gaslight the American people, into believing her own warped and perverted views.”

During his 2016 campaign, Trump referred to Clinton as “Crooked Hillary,” but has since retired the nickname.
Both Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, have been busy with their production company, HiddenLight Productions. In Her Hands was the first documentary from the two and is available on Netflix following a Toronto International Film Festival premiere. It won an Emmy last year at the News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
