While Arizona Democrats are anticipating that an expected ballot measure guaranteeing abortion access up until fetal viability will drive voters to the polls this November, voters have other pressing concerns they want addressed.

Arizonans have expressed greater dissatisfaction in the economy and the immigration policies under the Biden administration. A Wall Street Journal survey of swing-state voters in March found that 60% of Arizona residents believed the state is headed in the wrong direction, making it the most negative assessment among the seven battleground states. Nearly half of residents said Arizona’s economy has gotten worse.

This survey comes as the semiconductor industry in Arizona is thriving thanks to funding from the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act passed in 2022, and the state is set to receive tens of billions of dollars in investment, unemployment is near historic lows, and the state has drawn hundreds of thousands of new residents since 2020.

In Phoenix, housing prices have increased by nearly 50% since before the pandemic. While the values of homes have increased, and high interest rates and a booming market have made it difficult for homeowners to upgrade to a newer, bigger home.

The survey revealed the economy, immigration, and border security are the top three issues on Arizona voters’ minds, followed by abortion.
