Masses assemble in Ireland to oppose immigration rules
Thousands protested in Dublin, Ireland, opposing the government’s immigration policies, emphasizing the preservation of Irish identity and culture. Concerns over the impact of British immigration policies transferring migrants to Ireland were raised, with calls to maintain traditions and prevent Ireland from becoming an Islam stronghold. The demonstration highlighted the ongoing debate on immigration and refugee issues.
Thousands of protesters filled Dublin, Ireland‘s streets on Monday marching to chants of “Out, Out!”
The Irish demonstrators were rallying to fight their government’s immigration policies while marching and waving Irish flags.
“I’m here for my children and I’m here for my grandchildren. I’m here to keep Ireland for the Irish and our Celtic race,” a woman at the Dublin protest said.
“[And to keep] our culture, our traditions, and our Christian Catholic religion. I don’t want Ireland to become an Islam stronghold,” she added.
Britain has been offloading their unprecedented surge in migration onto Ireland, which has led to refugee camps emerging in the capital city of Ireland.
The British Parliament recently passed legislation aimed at deporting asylum-seekers who arrive without permission to the African country of Rwanda.
The migrants who were previously headed for Britain are now arriving at Ireland’s International Protection Office on a weekly basis.
Eighty percent of asylum-seekers are estimated to cross the land border with Northern Ireland.
Tents, garbage, and the smell of urine have grown from the encampments of migrants taking over the streets of Dublin and along the city’s Grand Canal.
“We’ve nowhere to put them all and more keep coming. There’s no end to it,” an International Protection Office worker told a local news outlet. “It’s a madhouse.”
In addition to African refugees, Ireland has been housing 100,000 Ukrainian war refugees.
Ireland is now looking to bring legislation to send the asylum-seekers back to the U.K.
