Whoopi Goldberg questions Trump trial: “If innocent, why in court?
The View hosts stood by Stormy Daniels as a credible individual and scrutinized ex-President Donald Trump’s court rebuttals. The debate encompassed a payment portrayed as a cover-up, purportedly disguised as a business expense surpassing campaign finance limitations. Co-host Sunny Hostin highlighted the complexity of the case, emphasizing the importance of credibility in the trial. The hosts of The View supported Stormy Daniels as a trustworthy figure and examined ex-President Donald Trump’s legal defenses. They delved into a payment presented as a concealment tactic, allegedly masked as a business cost exceeding campaign finance boundaries. Co-host Sunny Hostin underscored the case’s intricacies, stressing the pivotal role of trustworthiness during the trial.
The View hosts defended porn star Stormy Daniels as a “believable person” and questioned former President Donald Trump‘s denials in court.
“It’s about the fact that they paid her as a cover-up and then they used, sort of — they pretended it was a business expense and it was over the campaign contribution amount,” co-host Sunny Hostin explained on Wednesday.
She continued, “It’s actually campaign finance fraud, but since he denied having sex with her, the prosecution now has to put her up on the witness stand to explain that they did have sex, that she was paid off, and that she was paid off so that it would not affect his campaign.”
Hostin said that the trial has become about “his word against his word.” She said it’s all about credibility for the jury.
“That’s why Trump’s lawyers were hammering her and hammering her and hammering her, but, you know, if you listen to some of the reporters in the courtroom, she seemed pretty believable. She seemed pretty credible,” Hostin said.
“I think if you’re a jury — she’s showed to have lied on Jimmy Kimmel. It hurt her credibility, but she is a believable person,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in.
Hostin was encouraged by the prosecution’s efforts in the Trump trial.
“What they’ve done is framed the falsified documents as concealing a broader conspiracy to protect Trump’s campaign, and that — in that framing, they are hitting it out of the park,” she said.
“It seems if they’re building this case that shows all of the stuff that he’s done, it’s kind of a real case to say, OK, you shouldn’t be president, because these are — it’s not just — we’re talking about one thing at a time,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “But I think what they’ve managed to do that they hadn’t managed to do anywhere else is build this sort of arc of lies.”
Hostin jumped in, “A pattern.”
“Well, you know what he says. He always says he didn’t do it. You know, I just think if you didn’t do it, why are you in the court?” Goldberg asked.

She added, “Nobody did this. You did this. You took stuff. This is on you. This isn’t them. It isn’t the judge. This is yours.”
Their comments follow a segment on Tuesday’s show where they contemplated which prison Trump should be sent to. Trump’s campaign manager responded on Wednesday, saying The View is “wildly out of touch” with the public.
