Whoopi Goldberg demanded jail time for former President Donald Trump, claiming that if he was not put behind bars it would “give anyone permission to do what he said he could do, which was shoot people on 5th Avenue.”
After Goldberg and her cohosts on ABC’s “The View” shared their giddy celebrations over the former president’s conviction in the Manhattan hush-money case, the tone turned to his sentencing and whether or not Trump might spend some time behind bars.
Goldberg first said that it was “great to see that our justice system can work,” complaining that up to this point, because Trump hadn’t already been convicted of something that would either put him behind bars or prevent him from returning to the Oval Office, it hadn’t seemed to her as though that was the case.
“I want them to give him six months,” she said, claiming without offering any evidence that young people looked up to Trump because he never had to face any consequences.
Former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin followed, saying that her “sources” inside District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office were telling her that the prosecution was looking for a year.
“When you spend a year in prison in New York or under, you serve in Rikers Island,” Hostin explained, pausing to flash a smug smile at the audience.

Hostin went on to say that what she most looked forward to was Trump on parole, saying that she was certain he’d end up violating the terms and would get thrown back in Rikers.
“A man with a temperament of a toddler cannot withstand all of the things that you would have to do to be on probation and that means he could be sent back to Rikers!” she exclaimed.
Goldberg jumped back in then, saying that ultimately, she believed Trump had to serve time because it would set a bad precedent if he did not.
“I’m hoping for all of our sakes that we are not chasing this,” Goldberg continued. “Because this — if we don’t have any consequences here, we are screwed because it means that everybody and their mama can decide they’re gonna go do what he did. And we give them permission to do what he said he could do, which was shoot people on 5th Avenue and not have any problems.”
