The Trump campaign issued a cease-and-desist letter to Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) demanding he stop displaying campaign materials that suggest he has the former president’s support ahead of a tough primary challenge next month.
In the letter sent to Good on Friday, former President Donald Trump’s legal team asked Good’s campaign to stop producing signs and other materials that imply Trump has endorsed his reelection bid when “you know that is false.” The letter comes just days after Trump endorsed John McGuire, who is challenging Good for his seat in the GOP primary and has received support from several of the incumbent’s colleagues in the House.
“To be clear, neither you nor your campaign are authorized to use President Trump’s name or the Campaign’s to falsely imply their support of your candidacy,” the letter said, according to a copy obtained by the Washington Examiner. “Nor are you or your campaign authorized to claim that you represent or are otherwise associated with President Trump or the Campaign.”
Good, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, has recently touted Trump’s support on his campaign website by citing the former president’s endorsement during the 2022 midterm elections. That endorsement has since been removed from his website.
Good first fell out of favor with Trump by backing Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for the GOP presidential nomination early last year. He attempted to repair the relationship after the Florida governor suspended his campaign, endorsing Trump within minutes of the announcement. Most recently, he appeared at Trump’s hush money trial in New York City earlier this month.

“There are a lot of unscrupulous people and groups who seek to make money off President Trump’s name and Campaign,” the letter added. “President Trump is very concerned with ensuring that his supporters are not deceived into thinking they are contributing to a candidate — like you — that President Trump does not support.”
The Virginia primary is scheduled to take place on June 18. The Washington Examiner contacted Good’s campaign for comment.
