Eric Trump argues that voters see Trump as a victim, just as some of their communities are

Eric Trump argued Sunday that his father’s continued legal woes are only helping him in the 2024 presidential election, as they are winning him support from communities he previously did not have.

Former President Donald Trump was found guilty of all 34 charges he faced in his hush money trial in New York on Thursday, making him the first former United States president to be convicted of a felony crime. In the wake of this ruling, the former president has received an outpouring of support, with Eric Trump contending that the swing from independent voters has been “unbelievably” high.

“And, you know, they’re literally feeding him certain segments of the population that he might not have had in 2016 and 2020, because for the first time they realize that the system’s coming down, that he’s the victim,” Trump said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “He’s the victim that oftentimes some of their communities were. And you see them swinging, look at the African American vote, that’s swinging over to Donald Trump in spades. Look at the Hispanic vote over the last couple of years. Look at the youth vote right now, Maria!”

Trump also argued that the day his father’s guilty verdict was delivered might go down in history as the day that the former president won the 2024 election, as he himself had never seen the country “more upset about what’s happening.” He accused the Democrats of believing their “little trickery” will be overlooked, but that voters are looking “through this nonsense.”

Shortly after Trump’s verdict was given, the former president’s campaign website crashed, and was later updated to reflect the news of the verdict. On Friday, Trump’s campaign website raised almost $53 million, with $34.8 million of it being raised within the first 12 hours after the verdict.

President Joe Biden’s campaign responded to Trump’s verdict by stating that “no one is above the law” and shared a link of its own on social media to which people could donate. Biden is seeking reelection this November, and Trump is likely to be his general election opponent from the Republican Party, as he is the presumptive nominee.

Ahead of Election Day, X owner and billionaire Elon Musk is planning to host a live video town hall with Trump and independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr., with the Biden campaign reportedly turning down the offer to join. The planned town hall comes as Musk is reportedly being considered by Trump for an advisor’s role in a potential second presidency.

The first presidential debate between Trump and Biden is scheduled for June 27, with CNN set to host.
