Democratic voters overwhelmingly want former President Donald Trump put in handcuffs and thrown in jail for his conviction on 34 felony counts in the recently concluded New York hush money case.
More than any of those polled, 63% of Democrats and 68% of self-described liberals want Trump to receive a prison sentence, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets on Wednesday.
In the case, Judge Juan Merchan could sentence Trump to up to four years behind bars for his conviction on charges that he falsified business records to cover up a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels who claims she had sex with the former New York real estate developer. Sentencing is set for July 11.
Overall, Rasmussen said that there isn’t a lot of support for jailing Trump. By a margin of 52%-36%, voters do not want him put in jail. Just 8% of Republicans want prison time.

Still, voters overall agreed with the jury verdict of guilty on all counts. Some 51% agreed with the jury, while 44% did not.
Asked by Rasmussen if the verdict will make a difference in Trump’s challenge to President Joe Biden, more (35%) said it would make the Republican’s election more likely. Another 25% said it would make Trump’s election less likely, and 28% said it wouldn’t matter.
