Trump Indicates New Addition to VP Candidate List

Former President Donald Trump recently met with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, where Trump mentioned considering Youngkin as a⁤ potential vice presidential running mate for the 2024 election. The discussion mainly focused on strategies to turn Virginia, which has supported Democratic candidates in⁤ recent election cycles, ‍to a ‍Republican ⁢state in the upcoming presidential elections. This meeting occurred amidst new polling data showing a‍ tie between Trump and current President Joe Biden.

Former President Donald Trump met with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin for the first time on Thursday and walked away from the meeting suggesting that the governor is now on his list of candidates he is considering to be his vice presidential running mate.

The two discussed what it would take to flip the state red for the 2024 presidential election after it has voted for the Democrat candidate the last several cycles.

The meeting comes as new polling has shown that Trump and President Joe Biden are tied in the state at 48% each, which comes after Biden beat Trump in the state by 10 points in 2020.

A Fox News reporter floated the idea of Youngkin being Trump’s VP when she interviewed the former president. Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox News, lobbied Youngkin to run for the Republican Party nomination during this last cycle.

“He’s great,” Trump said after the meeting. “And I think I could consider that. Yes. I haven’t, I haven’t been asked that question, but he would be on that list. He’s very good. We had a great meeting about Virginia.”

It’s not clear if Trump is seriously considering Youngkin as a VP candidate as there have been no prior reports about his campaign reaching out to the governor for information.

The campaign has reached out to several candidates for paperwork over the possibility that Trump could pick them, including Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), former Cabinet member Ben Carson, and others.
