DeSantis Addresses Entry of 8 ISIS Suspects into U.S. via Mexico Border
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized The New York Times for disputing his past statements regarding the risk of terrorists crossing into the U.S. via the southern border. This criticism followed the arrest of eight ISIS terrorist suspects by ICE in New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, who had entered the U.S. illegally. These arrests seem to affirm DeSantis’s warnings about national security threats due to what he perceives as President Biden’s lax border policies. The New York Times previously challenged DeSantis’s claims, with blogger Eileen Sullivan labeling his warnings as false, citing no lethal terrorist attacks in the U.S. involving border-crossers since 1975. DeSatitis’s response came during an appearance on Fox News, underscoring his vindication after his earlier predictions proved accurate.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) blasted The New York Times this week after he was again proven correct over remarks he made late last year about terrorists entering the U.S. through the southern border.
Personnel from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested eight ISIS terrorist suspects over the weekend in New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia after they illegally entered the U.S.
The New York Post reported that the investigation that led to their arrest “featured a wiretap which revealed one of the now-arrested individuals was talking about bombs.”
During one of the Republican presidential primary debates last fall, DeSantis warned about the threat that Biden’s open border policies present to national security.
“If you look at the threats that we face, terrorists have come in through our southern border,” DeSantis said.
Left-wing New York Times blogger Eileen Sullivan claimed in a fact-check of DeSantis’ statement: “This is false.”
“Since 1975, no one has been killed or injured in a terrorist attack in the United States that involved someone who came across the border illegally,” she wrote in her fact-check of something that the governor didn’t even say.
DeSantis responded to the news story and the fact-check during a Fox News segment this week.
“I said this last fall that — and it wasn’t even just me spitballing, Biden’s own DHS has acknowledged there were hundreds of people on the terror watch list,” he said. “You can’t have 10 million people come and not have potential terrorists come across the border, especially when we have people from the Middle East.”

“So now we know without a shadow of a doubt that we have ISIS folks who have been identified and apprehended,” he continued. “The New York Times was wrong. The New York Times was putting forth a narrative, they were running interference for Joe Biden. What I said was correct at the time, and it remains correct today, but I am not gonna hold my breath asking for an apology. I think a lot of these corporate media outlets, it’s drive-by journalism. They say what they want, and then they just forget about when it’s obvious they were wrong.”
