Poll shows Latino voters favor Trump over Biden on immigration issues

Democrats have lost their edge over Republicans when it comes to how their immigration policies appeal to Latinos.

Equis, a research firm focused on pursuing Latino interests, found that more Latinos in battleground states trust Republicans and former President Donald Trump than President Joe Biden and Democrats on their handling of immigration issues.

The poll conducted in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin showed that 41% of Latinos had more confidence in Trump regarding his handling of the border than 38% who said they trusted Democrats and Biden.

The distribution of support Latinos have for Democrats and Republicans on immigration policy is similar to that of non-Hispanic Americans, with 49% trusting the GOP and 34% siding with Democrats.

Among registered Latinos in battleground states, 72% said they were somewhat or very concerned with Biden and Democrats breaking their promises on immigration policy; whereas 64% were worried about Trump and the GOP’s “extreme measures” when addressing the border.

The surge in migrants coming across the Mexico border is alarming for the majority of Latinos. A Pew Research poll found that 74% of Latinos do not approve of how the U.S. government is handling the migrant crisis at the southern border.

However, Biden still has an advantage over Trump with regard to Latino voters as a whole. In a head-to-head matchup, Biden beats Trump among swing-state Latinos by 59% to 39%. Biden’s support drops once introducing third party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Biden’s support among Latino voters drops to 47%, and Trump falls to 34%.
