Biden campaign national co-chairman doesn’t know why Biden is losing ground with Latino voters – Washington Examiner

Mitch Landrieu, co-chairman of the Biden campaign, expressed uncertainty about why President Joe Biden is losing support among Latino voters. During an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Landrieu was asked to explain this decline in support from a group that significantly backed Biden⁢ in the 2020 election. Landrieu suggested that the fluctuation in support among Latino voters is not ‌unusual and compared it to similar shifts seen among African American ‌voters, indicating that voter preferences can change and are not static.

In an appearance on NBC News‘s Meet the Press, Landrieu was asked for an explanation as to why Biden was losing the support of Latinos, a voting bloc that overwhelmingly voted for him in 2020.

“Well, I don’t know,” he answered, when pressed on the question.

Though he didn’t know why Latinos were defecting from Biden’s base, Landrieu expressed confidence that they would change their minds.

“I think that you got to play this thing out and see actually how it works,” he continued. “Latino voters are like everybody else. They move around from space to space. You see this with African American voters as well. The point of the matter is, most Americans want a safe and secure country. They want a stable president. They want somebody that is fighting for them. And at the end of the day, I think that they’re going to vote for Joe Biden.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Landrieu defended Biden’s position on immigration, arguing that the border has been in crisis for “the past 20 or 30 years in this country.”

A recent poll from Equis, a research firm focused on pursuing Latino interests, found that more battleground state Latinos support Trump on the issue of immigration over Biden.

The poll found that among Latinos in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, 41% had more confidence in Trump’s handling of the border compared to 38% for Biden.

The trend among Latinos reflects growing support among voters for Trump’s more strict immigration policies, as part of the backlash to Biden’s handling of the border crisis.
