RFK Jr. team promises alternate programming to counter ‘CNN fake debate’ – Washington Examiner
Although he was not invited to the official presidential debate with Donald Trump and Joe Biden, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is creating his own platform for a debate. This unique event will be held virtually in response to what his team views as exclusion from the main debate. Kennedy’s son, Bobby Kennedy III, announced that they would host a debate featuring a cardboard cutout of RFK Sr., with live responses from RFK Jr. to the statements of Trump and Biden as they occur in the main debate. Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, also teased additional surprises for those who choose to tune into their alternative debate event instead of the mainstream CNN debate.
While former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden trade jabs on Thursday, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was not invited, will be debating them in his own way: virtually.
In front of a cardboard cutout of his father, RFK Jr.’s son Bobby Kennedy III said the Kennedy campaign would hold its own debate.
“Our plan is to hold our own debate. I’m not gonna say exactly how we’re gonna do it, but we’ll have the other two candidates up there as well, say what they say live, and we’re gonna give my dad a chance to respond live,” Kennedy III said.
Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, confirmed his son’s claim by saying, “Okay, cats out of the bag! If you don’t want to watch the CNN fake debate Thursday, we’ve got you covered. Plus a few surprises. Stay tuned.”
The announcement comes on the back of numerous social media and livestream appearances from Kennedy and members of his campaign in an effort to appeal to voters. This is different from Trump and Biden, who have relied on traditional, in-person rallies mixed in with appearances to garner support.
Last week, Kennedy held a TikTok Live town hall in which he answered questions from the platform’s creators and generally spoke on campaign matters. It was organized with the help of Tiffany Cianci, who has also hosted Green Party candidate Jill Stein and libertarian candidate Chase Oliver.
The Washington Examiner contacted the Kennedy campaign to confirm its Thursday plans but received no response. The campaign previously bashed CNN’s decision to exclude it.
“Presidents Biden and Trump do not want me on the debate stage, and CNN illegally agreed to their demand,” Kennedy said. “My exclusion by Presidents Biden and Trump from the debate is undemocratic, un-American, and cowardly. Americans want an independent leader who will break apart the two-party duopoly. They want a President who will heal the divide, restore the middle class, unwind the war machine, and end the chronic disease epidemic.”

While Biden and Trump are debating in Georgia, the Kennedy campaign will hold several rallies and protests the same day in places such as Boston and outside the White House.
The Kennedy campaign also has a petition to include him in the debates on its website with over 219,000 signatures.
