Trump loves ‘ready for prime-time central casting’ in VP selection: Tiana Lowe Doescher – Washington Examiner

The⁢ Washington Examiner’s ⁢Tiana Lowe Doescher discusses the shortlist of potential vice presidential candidates for Donald Trump’s 2024 election campaign. Speculation centers around Governor Doug Burgum of North ⁤Dakota, Senator Marco Rubio‌ of Florida, and Senator J.D. Vance of ‍Ohio. According to⁢ Doescher, Trump’s selection criteria seem to focus on candidates who are⁢ charismatic and effective in public engagements, traits she attributes to all three⁢ mentioned. During a Fox⁤ News appearance, she highlighted each candidate’s strengths and noted that while⁢ they don’t necessarily consolidate a significant electoral base, Trump appears confident given his stance in swing states compared to previous elections. Doescher mentioned that Trump is‍ keen on choosing a vice ⁢president who won’t ‍undermine him, unlike ⁢his experience with Mike ⁣Pence, and emphasized the need for Trump to attract more support from suburban women ⁢and minority⁤ voters.

The Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe Doescher argued the rumored short list of former President Donald Trump’s possible vice presidential candidates stems from his love of “ready for prime time central casting.”

The topic of who Trump will select as his vice president for the 2024 election cycle has been speculated for months now, with a new report indicating the three most likely candidates include Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and J.D. Vance (R-OH). Doescher suggested Trump wants someone who is great with the public, which she contended all three of these candidates are.

“Marco Rubio, incredible orator, same thing with J.D. Vance, great personal story, and Doug Burgum, billionaire in his own right, very successful businessman,” Doescher said on Fox News’s Your World with Neil Cavuto. “Look, they don’t necessarily shore up any significant electoral base, not that it is clear on the map right now that Trump really needs it, right? He’s ahead in every single swing state, except for Wisconsin and Michigan, where he’s virtually tied, which is very different from previous elections where he was behind in all these swing states until he maybe won them. So he’s not too concerned about that, but really what Trump wants is he doesn’t want a repeat of Mike Pence. He doesn’t want to feel undermined.”

Doescher added that while all three of these picks would provide a decent amount of charisma and ability to fundraise for Trump’s campaign, the former president still has work to do in winning support from voters, specifically among suburban women and minority voters.

About the presidential debate scheduled for Thursday, Doescher advised Trump to focus on “Joe Biden’s America,” specifically discussing matters impacting the present instead of discussing what has happened in the past, such as the events of 2020 or “audio tapes unearthed from 2016.”

“Don’t make it about that, make it about right now,” Doescher said. “Make it about the 19% increase in prices under Joe Biden. Make it about the millions that have flooded through the southern border. Make it about the fact that you can’t get a mortgage for under 7% today when, under the Trump administration, you could get one for under 3%. That’s what’s really going to matter.”

The upcoming debate between Trump and President Joe Biden will come ahead of both candidates becoming the presidential nominees for their respective parties. While the former president’s choice for his running mate is still unknown, Trump has stated he knows who he will pick for this position and that they will “most likely” be at the debate.

Former Georgia Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler and her billionaire husband, Jeff Sprecher, are hosting a watch party for the debate, with multiple possible running mates for Trump attending. Besides Rubio, Burgum, and Vance, other rumored attendees include Dr. Ben Carson, who worked as secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under Trump, and Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Byron Donalds (R-FL), and Wesley Hunt (R-TX).
