Gas Prices: Weekend brings relief with a drop in pump prices – Washington Examiner

Gas prices experienced‌ a slight decrease over the weekend, with the average price‍ for a gallon of regular gas falling‍ to $3.492 on Sunday, after a week of incremental increases. This decrease follows a period where gas prices ‌had been consistently rising, ⁤reaching $3.496 on Saturday. Comparatively,‌ the average ⁢price​ was $3.447 a⁤ week ago,⁤ $3.569 a ‍month ago, and $3.543 a⁣ year ago. California had the highest prices in the country on‌ Sunday,‌ with gas priced at $4.795 per gallon.


Gas prices decreased over the weekend as the average price for a gallon of regular gas dropped to $3.492 on Sunday.

It was the first day in about a week in which gas prices decreased, according to AAA. On Saturday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.496. This was after four straight days of increases last week. 

A week ago, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.447. A month ago, it was $3.569 per gallon. A year ago, heading into the last day of June 2023, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.543.

California was the state with the country’s most expensive gas on Sunday. It was $4.795 for a gallon of regular gas in the Golden State. Conversely, Mississippi had the cheapest gas prices, with a gallon of regular gas costing $2.942 on Sunday.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C., and a few other states.

Washington, D.C.

In the nation’s capital, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.654 on Sunday. This was a slight decrease from Saturday’s price of $3.66. A week ago, gas was $3.661 per gallon. A month ago, a gallon of regular gas was slightly more expensive than the prices this week, coming in at $3.699 per gallon.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Sunday was $3.332. This was a slight increase from Saturday’s average price of $3.336 per gallon. A week ago regular-grade gas was $3.3321 per gallon in Virginia.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Sunday was $3.565. This was the same price as on Saturday. A week ago, the price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.522 per gallon. Gas prices are also cheaper now than what they were a month ago, when it cost $3.663 for a gallon of regular gas.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware on Sunday was $3.515. This was a slight drop from Saturday’s price of $3.518 per gallon. A week ago, regular gas in the First State was $3.458 per gallon. A month ago, it cost $3.536 per gallon for regular gas. A year ago, gas prices in the First State were much cheaper as it cost $3.371 per gallon.
