Republican National Committee Co-chairwoman Lara Trump said she is scared of how former President Donald Trump’s recent conviction will affect his life, specifically for the “extreme lengths” that could be taken with his sentencing.

The former president, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee for the 2024 election, was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. His sentencing is set for Sept. 18, with Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law, saying it is “shocking” to see where her father is in his political life.

“I fear what extreme lengths could be gotten to because I think the idea that we have found ourselves where we are right now is shocking,” Lara Trump said on The Sage Steele Show when discussing her father-in-law potentially going to prison. “And I don’t think I honestly ever expected to see it, and so sure, I fear that that could happen to him.”

Lara Trump added that she knows her father-in-law will attempt to make the best of whatever situation he is in but said she finds it “very scary” how there does not seem to be an end to his legal setbacks. She also fears the former president could get worse than prison, as “there really doesn’t seem to be a bottom to this.”

When asked if her father-in-law fears for his safety at all, Lara Trump said she believes he does not think about it much, referencing how he directs his Secret Service to meet up with people during his public appearances. She added that the former president “wants to connect with people,” arguing that this is when people can see “the true nature of this man.”

The wife of Eric Trump also argued that she has never seen the former president look better physically in the 16 years she has known him, calling it “mind-boggling.” She noted how she gets exhausted whenever she does meet and greets, yet her father-in-law always seems “ready to go.”

“I always say he was made for such a time of this, and you can take that in a lot of different ways, but I really believe it; I truly do. I don’t know how else to explain him,” Lara Trump said.

Donald Trump’s sentencing was originally scheduled for Thursday but was delayed to September earlier this month after the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity. His original sentencing would have taken only a few days before the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to become the party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

Discussions about replacing President Joe Biden with a different Democratic candidate have drastically grown since the first presidential debate, though Lara Trump has doubted doing so will improve the Democratic Party’s chances. She has also argued that Donald Trump’s performance at the debate was the best in his political career and that it cemented voters’s opinion to support him come November.
