The cost of gas continues to rise, with the average price for a gallon of regular gas increasing for the second consecutive day. This increase follows a slight decrease over the July 4th weekend. Prices are now just shy of being a penny cheaper than they were at the same time last year. The average price for a gallon of regular gas rose to $3.538 on Wednesday, almost two cents higher than the previous day. Gas prices vary across states, with Mississippi having the cheapest gas at $3.005 per gallon and California having the most expensive at $4.784. The cost of gas continues to soar as the average price for a gallon of regular gas rose for the second straight day. The latest increases negate the minimal decrease Americans experienced over the July 4th weekend. Prices are now less than a penny cheaper than last year at this time.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas increased to $3.538 on Wednesday, rising almost two cents in 24 hours, according to AAA. On Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.519. On Monday and Sunday, a gallon of regular gas cost .506.
Gas is also more expensive now than it was a month ago when it was $3.445 per gallon.
Mississippi had the cheapest gas prices for a gallon of regular gas on Wednesday, at $3.005—rising above $3 for the first time in weeks. Meanwhile, California had the country’s most expensive gas on Wednesday, at $4.784.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.712 in the nation’s capital on Wednesday. This was an increase from Tuesday’s price of $3.709 per gallon. A week ago, regular gas was $3.69 per gallon in Washington, D.C., and a month ago, it was $3.683.
Virginia
On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia was $3.467. This was an increase from Tuesday’s average price of $3.441 per gallon. A week ago, regular-grade gas was $3.374 per gallon in Virginia. A month ago, it was $3.342, and last year at this time, a gallon of regular gas was $3.342.
Maryland
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Wednesday was $3.618. This was a slight increase from yesterday’s price of $3.59. A week ago, the price for regular gas was $3.579 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland were paying $3.53 for a gallon of regular gas. Last year at this time, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.574.
